About the Role:

GM is looking to hire aSenior Android Software Engineerto lead design development and longterm maintenance ofinvehicle infotainment (IVI) apps onAndroid Automotive OS (AAOS)for GMs nextgeneration softwaredefined vehicles. The engineer will own major features endtoend (architecture implementation validation launch OTA) and set the bar forsafety performance reliability and maintainabilityacross Vehicle Applications & Services with software deployed at scale across global fleets.

What Youll Do

• Design and develop the worlds best in-vehicle applications for GM Infotainment systems
• Responsible for the entire software development process of your domain including requirements system design development deployment and maintenance of the Infotainment software
• Define and collaborate onunit integration UI andbench/invehicletestcoverage.
• Apply and evolveclean modular Androidarchitectures( Jetpack) for large longlived automotive codebasesbypartneringwithplatformteamsonAOSP/AAOScustomization and integration.
• Diagnose and fix issues acrossapp framework andsystemlayers.
• Contribute to architectural decisions onsystem services permissions and securitymodelsandinfluenceplatformlevel improvements instability performance security and developer efficiency.
• Define andimplementvariousteststrategieslikeUnittests( Espresso UIAutomator)System/integrationtests.
• Buildandmaintaintestautomationfor emulators and onbenchenvironmentsandintegrate automated testing intoCI/CDpipelinesandautomatedbuild systems.
• Providetechnicalleadership and mentorshipto midlevel and junior engineersincludesleadingcodeanddesignreviewsandchampionbestpractices

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

• Bachelors degreein CS Software Engineering EE/CE or related field orequivalentexperience.
• 5yearsofAndroiddevelopmentwithproductionAndroidappsorAndroidbasedembeddedsoftwareandprovenexperience onAAOSor deeply embedded Androidplatforms.
• Expert Kotlinskills;strongproficiencyinKotlinand/or Java Android SDK andmodern Androidpatterns(coroutines/FlowJetpack MVVM orsimilar).
• Deep understanding ofApp/activitylifecyclesBackgroundlimitsschedulingbackgroundworkCoroutines/Flowconcurrency configuration changesMemory management profiling and performancetuningAndroidpermissionssecurity and systemservices.
• Trackrecordofdesigningimplementing and shipping complexfeaturesendtoendin large codebases with strong debugging skills.
• Demonstratedperformanceoptimizationon resourceconstrained devices (UI networking I/O rendering) with measurableimprovements.
• Strong grounding insoftware qualitywithexperienceautomatedtesting code reviews defensive and secure coding
• Experiencewritingandmaintaining:Unittests(JUnitMockK/Mockito)UItests(EspressoUIAutomator)System/integrationtests.
• Handson experience withCI/CD pipelines automated buildsandGitworkflowsin multiteamenvironments.
• EffectivecrossfunctionalcollaborationwithUX product validation/QA and platform/systemengineers.
• Clearwritten and verbal communication able to drive decisions and explain complex topics to variedaudiences.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

• 8 years of experience in Android development
• Knowledge ofVHAL and vehicle property APIs.
• Familiaritywithdriverdistractionrulesand invehicle HMI guidelines (OEM regulatory industry).
• Experiencewithlonglifecycleautomotive software safetycritical or regulated systems (functional safety cybersecurity etc.).
• Strong debugging withlogs traces and systemlevel tools.
• Demonstratedtechnicalleadership:
• Leading designs for complexfeatures/subsystems.
• Mentoring engineers.
• Influencing standards patterns and tooling.
  

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $ 115000 to $ 164600. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
