Job description
Randstad has partnered with Canada’s largest and premier Design-Build firm operating north of the 60th parallel. With an extensive portfolio spanning the healthcare, commercial, industrial, and residential sectors, our client specializes in building science and culturally sensitive design.
Unlike traditional firms, the vast majority of their work is executed via a highly integrated Design-Build model in close collaboration with an expert, in-house Construction team. If you are a quick learner, a collaborative innovator, and excited by unique professional and geographic challenges, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact in the arctic and sub-arctic communities of the Canadian Territories.

Reporting To: VP of Design
The Architect will lead and oversee all phases of architectural projects, including schematic design, design development, construction documents, construction administration, and consultant coordination. The successful applicant will bring a high level of professional leadership, passion, and design excellence to the team. You will possess a comprehensive technical background, excellent project management capabilities, and a deep understanding of building science

Advantages
Competitive Salary
Paid Vacation

Travel to new and remote places

Responsibilities
Project Leadership: Manage and communicate project status, milestones, and deliverables to executive leadership and project teams at regular intervals.
Design-Build Collaboration: Partner with the internal Design-Build Team to ensure total project success as measured by client satisfaction, work quality, profitability, team professionalism, and seamless collaboration.
Strategic Problem Solving: Lead the Design-Build Team in identifying specific design objectives, resolving complex technical features, and engineering innovative solutions for unique northern environments.
Design Development: Direct the development of detailed design concepts and translate them into comprehensive design development and construction documents.
Quality Assurance: Oversee and actively participate in the preparation, review, and sealing (where applicable) of drawing packages for construction.
Consultant & Client Management: Lead consultant coordination throughout the project lifecycle and act as the primary liaison with Clients and Approving Authorities.
Regulatory Compliance: Perform and oversee Project Code Analysis, ensuring absolute compliance with the Canadian National Building Code and local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
Technical Quality Control: Review and edit drawings for Building Science accuracy, strict consultant coordination, and building code compliance prior to project completion.
Construction Administration: Conduct site reviews at critical project milestones, lead site meetings, oversee shop drawing reviews, and manage contract administration.

Qualifications
Education & Credentials: Professional degree in Architecture (M.Arch or B.Arch) from an accredited post-secondary institution. Registered Architect (or eligible for immediate registration) with a Canadian provincial or territorial association is highly preferred.
Experience: 5+ years of related experience in the production and management of architectural contract documents in Canada (with at least 2 years in a leadership/project architect capacity).
Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in AutoCAD; familiarity with BIM/Revit and 3D modeling/rendering software is a strong asset.
Sector Expertise: Proven experience across Commercial, Residential, Institutional, Healthcare, and Hospitality building types.
Mastery of Codes: Advanced proficiency in Canadian National Building Code Analysis, Specification writing, Energy Codes, Building Science, and standard Canadian Construction Contracts.
Design & Execution: Superior conceptual design skills combined with a strong working knowledge of programming, planning, creative detailing, and complex building systems.
Project Management: Proven ability to manage schedules, budgets, and multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Soft Skills & Communication: Well-organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently while successfully guiding a multidisciplinary team. Excellent English verbal and written communication skills are required for client-facing presentations and technical reports.
Asset Qualifications: Northern design experience and familiarity with arctic logistics are highly valued assets.
