Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a highly motivated Production Engineer to join our Production Engineering team. In this role, you will help design and optimize the processes, tools, and equipment that enable the safe, efficient, and high-quality construction of complex shipbuilding projects.

You’ll apply your engineering expertise to bridge design and production, ensuring that what’s engineered can be effectively built. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative shipbuilding environment and is passionate about modern naval construction methods and continuous improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop Manufacturing Instructions (MIs) for complex installation sequences and specialized procedures
  • Design and draft production tools, including jigs, fixtures, and templates
  • Review Production Drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and constructability
  • Review, approve, and communicate Vendor Furnished Information (VFI) such as installation and care instructions
  • Plan and execute engineering test plans to support new products and process introduction
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to junior engineers and review team deliverables
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Planning, Facilities, Engineering (Platform/Combat), Scheduling, and Supply Chain teams
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities within your engineering discipline
  • Assess risks and develop mitigation strategies related to production engineering activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) or equivalent; P.Eng. (or eligibility) preferred
  • 3+ years' experience in shipbuilding, ship design, or heavy industrial manufacturing
  • Experience with ship systems or production functions (e.g., hull, mechanical/piping, electrical, or steel outfitting)
  • Strong understanding of shipbuilding production, planning, and materials
  • Knowledge of relevant maritime regulations and industry standards (LR, TC, IMO, ASME, etc.)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D/3D), MS Office, and technical documentation
  • Ability to interpret complex drawings/3D models and solve technical problems

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
