About the Opportunity

The City of Chestermere is looking for a full-time Manager, Engineering based in Chestermere, Alberta.

Reporting to the Director, Community Growth and Infrastructure, the Manager, Engineering provides strategic vision, professional engineering leadership, and senior operational management across Development Engineering, Capital Projects, and Asset Services. This role is responsible for overseeing multidisciplinary teams, supporting municipal growth and infrastructure delivery, and serving as a Responsible Member under the City’s APEGA Permit to Practice.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading and mentoring multidisciplinary teams across Development Engineering, Capital Projects, and Asset Management
  • Providing professional engineering oversight as a Responsible Member under the City’s APEGA Permit to Practice
  • Overseeing the review and approval of engineering plans, technical submissions, and infrastructure designs for development projects
  • Managing development engineering processes, agreements, performance securities, and subdivision servicing requirements
  • Directing the planning, procurement, delivery, and close-out of municipal capital infrastructure projects
  • Establishing and maintaining project management frameworks, governance standards, and best practices
  • Overseeing the City’s asset management program, including lifecycle planning, condition assessments, and renewal strategies
  • Providing strategic leadership for GIS services, data governance, and infrastructure analytics
  • Developing and managing departmental operating and capital budgets, forecasts, and funding opportunities
  • Identifying and mitigating technical, financial, regulatory, and operational risks across engineering functions
  • Preparing reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior leadership, Council, and external stakeholders
  • Building collaborative relationships with developers, consultants, utility providers, regulators, and community partners

About You

To qualify, you will need a post‑secondary degree in Civil Engineering, along with active registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with APEGA and eligibility to serve as a Responsible Member under an APEGA Permit to Practice. A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in municipal engineering, land development, infrastructure delivery, or a related field, including 5 years in a senior supervisory or management role, will also be essential.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) designation or equivalent project management experience
  • Experience overseeing development engineering reviews, capital project delivery, and asset management programs within a municipal environment
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams, contracts, and operating and capital budgets
  • Familiarity with asset management systems, lifecycle planning, and Alberta asset management regulations
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS, GIS platforms, and spatial data management
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar engineering design software

About the Benefits

Compensation based on skills and experience is a competitive annual salary of $140,000 - $150,000, and a host of excellent benefits including:
