In a global economy defined by increased disruption, fragmentation, conflict, and shifting geopolitical dynamics, the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is uniquely positioned to help Canadians make sense of the economic opportunities and geopolitical challenges of enhanced engagement with Asia at a time of unprecedented national economic challenges.

As Canada’s leading public-policy institution for research, analysis, and convening on Canada-Asia relations, with a team of 50 and an operating budget of $13M per annum, APF Canada’s mission is to enable Canadians to understand, connect with, and succeed in Asia. The Foundation plays a central role in Canada’s efforts to diversify its trade, investment, and geopolitical ties toward the dynamic economies of the Indo-Pacific.

We are looking for a Vice-President, Research to lead our research and programming activities during this new era in Canada-Asia relations.

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice-President, Research, will lead APF Canada’s Research and Programs portfolio at a pivotal moment for Canada’s engagement with Asia. Working collaboratively with colleagues in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and Singapore, and with a network of fellows and research partners across Canada and Asia, the Vice-President will translate the Foundation’s five-year strategic framework into an integrated annual agenda of research, policy engagement, convening, talent development, and in-region programming. As a key spokesperson and media commentator, the Vice-President will forge productive relationships with government officials, business leaders, academics, media, and other relevant stakeholders across Canada and the Indo-Pacific region.

The ideal candidate is a highly accomplished and respected leader with deep understanding of Canada-Asia relations. They bring significant experience from a research-driven organization, academic institution, think-tank, government agency, or public- or private-sector organization with strong ties to Asia. A strategic thinker with sound judgment, they are skilled at translating complex geopolitical, economic, and policy issues into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences. They possess a strong track record of shaping research agendas, leading high-performing teams, and fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and intellectual rigour.

The successful candidate is an influential relationship-builder with an established network across Canada and the Indo-Pacific and a proven ability to cultivate partnerships that advance organizational priorities. An exceptional communicator and credible public voice, they are comfortable engaging with media, speaking at conferences and public forums, and providing informed commentary on issues shaping Asia-Canada relations.

Nous cherchons à recruter un(e) vice-président(e), Recherche, pour guider nos activités de recherche et de programmation à l'aube de cette nouvelle ère des relations canado-asiatiques.

Relevant du président et chef de la direction, le ou la vice-président(e), Recherche, guidera les travaux de recherche et le portefeuille de programmes de la Fondation à un moment charnière pour l'engagement du Canada en Asie. En collaboration étroite avec des collègues à Vancouver, Toronto, Montréal et Singapour, ainsi qu'avec un réseau de chercheurs et chercheuses boursier(ère)s et agrégé(e)s de recherche de partout au Canada et en Asie, le ou la vice-président(e) traduira le cadre stratégique quinquennal de la Fondation en programmes de recherche, en engagements politiques, en activités de rassemblement, en développement des capacités et en programmation régionale annuelle. Porte-parole de la Fondation et commentateur ou commentatrice dans les médias, le ou la vice-président(e) tissera des liens productifs avec les représentants et représentantes gouvernementaux, les penseurs et penseuses, les universitaires, les médias et les autres acteurs pertinents, tant au Canada que dans la région indo-pacifique.

La candidate ou le candidat idéal(e) est une cheffe ou un chef hautement qualifié(e) et respecté(e), doté(e) de solides connaissances des relations Canada-Asie. La personne apportera une expérience considérable acquise au sein d'une organisation axée sur la recherche, d'une institution universitaire, d'une agence gouvernementale ou d'un organisme public ou privé entretenant de solides liens avec l'Asie. Penseuse ou penseur stratégique faisant preuve d'un grand discernement, la personne retenue possède la capacité de traduire les questions géopolitiques, économiques et politiques les plus complexes en analyses claires et exploitables pour des publics variés. Elle a une expertise reconnue pour orienter les programmes de recherche, diriger des équipes à haute performance et cultiver une culture d'excellence, de collaboration et de rigueur intellectuelle.

Reconnue pour sa capacité à créer des liens durables et influents, la personne retenue dispose d'un réseau établi au Canada et dans l'Indo-pacifique, ainsi que de la capacité à favoriser des partenariats qui font avancer les priorités de l'organisation. Dotée de grandes aptitudes en communication et jouissant d'une légitimité comme voix publique, la personne se sent à l'aise dans les échanges avec les médias, la prise de parole en conférence et dans les forums publics, et se distingue comme commentatrice ou commentateur éclairé(e) sur les questions relatives aux relations Canada-Asie.
