The Department of Asian Studies teaches a variety of courses relating to East Asia, South Asia, South East Asia and religions from those areas. This posting is for individuals with the ability to teach the course listed below for the fall semester

• Teach an online (asynchronous) introductory course on the history and culture of China (i.e., ASIA 1125: Introduction to East Asia (China).

Course content and learning outcomes are established for each course. The instructor will be responsible for updating content, preparing lectures and slide decks as needed, drafting, and marking assignments/quizzes/examinations, holding office hours, and communicating with students through email regarding the course material. In addition to the teaching responsibilities, the instructor will be expected to be available to participate in departmental activities and meetings.

Required Qualifications

Degree

• M.A. ( minimum) or Ph.D. (preferred) in Chinese or Asian Studies or related disciplines

Required Skills

• Demonstrated Post-secondary teaching experience of courses related to Chinese and Asian Studies
• Advanced/ Near native level Chinese Language competency and recent research experience in China
• Strong computer and communication skills
• English and an Asian Language in a related country.

Salary Range:

$46.06 - $142.49

Salary Range Placement: Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
