Summary

Were looking for a Nuclear Medicine Technologist Bone Densitometry to join our team and help deliver safe accurate and patient-focused nuclear medicine services!

This position may be eligible for a one-time recruitment incentive of up to $15000. Eligibility and the exact amount will be determined based on FTE and is subject to funding availability. To learn more about this incentive and whether you may qualify please contact your Recruitment Advisor.

Reporting to the Supervisor the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Bone Densitometry performs:

  • Diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine and bone densitometry procedures in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Preparing patients for examination operating nuclear medicine and bone densitometry equipment monitoring patient during procedures preparing and dispensing and administering radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Routine quality control tests on imaging equipment monitors area utilizing appropriate detection devices and disposes of radioactive substances and contaminated items by following established guidelines.

What You Bring

Education Training and Experience

  • Certification with the CAMRT (Nuclear Medicine).
  • Successful completion of 12 CME/CE credits in bone densitometry or current or previous CBDT or CDT certification with the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) or equivalent as approved by DAP.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification - Basic Life Support (BCLS) level.

Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) i.e. digital imaging image archiving and retrieval.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with nuclear medicine equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission Regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform radioisotope examinations in compliance with departmental standards.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Bone Densitometry protocols applications and equipment with understanding of the principles of Bone Density including positioning pathology as well as related patient care techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PACS/Radiology Information Systems i.e. digital imaging image archiving and retrieval.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families coworkers physicians other health care staff and staff of external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability in CPR techniques.
  • Demonstrated computer skills with current computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Your Day to Day:

  • Performs Nuclear Medicine and Bone Densitometry examinations including patient assessment positioning imaging and administration of radiopharmaceuticals and pharmacologic agents.
  • Provides patient care before during and after procedures monitoring patient condition and responding to emergencies as required.
  • Prepares dispenses administers and safely manages radioactive materials and therapeutic agents in accordance with regulatory and departmental standards.
  • Conducts quality control testing on radiopharmaceuticals imaging equipment and Bone Densitometry systems; performs basic troubleshooting and reports equipment issues.
  • Maintains accurate patient records exam documentation billing information and radiopharmacy inventory; orders and monitors supplies.
  • Assesses and triages patients to support workflow and ensure appropriate imaging resources are utilized.
  • Ensures compliance with radiation safety infection prevention occupational health and safety and regulatory requirements including incident reporting.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives research projects and ongoing education to support departmental operations and service excellence.
  • Provides orientation instruction and technical guidance to staff students residents and technologists.
  • Maintains required certifications and performs other related duties as assigned.
