Role Summary:
The Journeyman Electrician plays a vital role in the correct installation of electrical wire cable and equipment in various structures including camp dorms both indoors and outdoors. The work done will be in support of a camp dorm renovation project. Knowledge of and ability to execute the tasks required as per the Canadian Electrical Code is a key part of this role.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Follow procedures as defined in the CEC (Canadian Electrical Code)
- Assemble install test and maintain electrical or electronic wiring equipment appliances apparatuses and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems apparatuses and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers transformers or other components.
- Inspect electrical systems equipment and components to identify hazards defects and the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring equipment and fixtures using testing devices such as multimeters and megohmmeters to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment measuring devices power tools and testing equipment including multimeters and megohmmeters.
- Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment such as motors transformers circuit breaker panels and disconnects.
- Repair or replace wiring equipment and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
- Read and interpret electrical mechanical and architectural drawings and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts.
- Cut thread bend assemble and install conduits and other types of electrical conductor enclosures and fittings.
- Position maintain and install distribution and control equipment such as switches relays circuit breaker panels and fuse enclosures.
- Install and insulate self-regulating heat trace and test with multimeter and megohmmeter.
- Lockout electrical systems for all trades (Familiarity with Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures)
- Other duties as required by supervision such as assisting laborers carpenters and plumbers.
Education & Experience:
- Valid Alberta Journeyman Electrician Ticket or Red Seal Certification is required.
- 4 years experience within Residential or Commercial Construction Projects preferred
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License is required.
- Knowledge with computers: Microsoft Office Word and Excel
- Excellent communication and Customer Service skills.
- Must be able to work in a variety of conditions.
- Safety conscious attitude
- Ability to get along well with others on a work team.
- CSO (Common Safety Orientation) Certificate is required
- WHMIS 2015

- Previous Renovation Experience is considered an asset.

- Ability to pass a comprehensive Drug Alcohol and Physical Demand Assessment
