Job description

Our Story & Purpose:

We’re Vancity, a member-owned credit union built on the principles of inclusion and social justice. Since 1946, our relentless commitment to these values has helped us challenge the status quo and break down barriers. We’ve made bold commitments to become net-zero by 2040 across all mortgages and loans, and we’re actively pursuing strategies in Indigenous banking and financial resilience for our members.

As the largest private sector Living Wage Employer in Canada, we’re proud to be consistently recognized as one of the country’s Top Employers. If you’re ready to join our team of 2,300 diverse individuals, access competitive rewards and benefits, and be part of a greater movement - apply today! Your Role in Supporting Our Members:

As a Compensation Consultant, you are a subject matter expert in the design, governance, and administration of compensation programs, with a strong focus on incentive and commission-based plans across lines of business including Commercial Banking, Retail Banking, and Wealth.

You will play a key role in evolving Vancity’s compensation programs by ensuring plans are well-designed, effectively governed, and consistently administered. You will partner closely with business leaders and People & Culture stakeholders to translate business strategies into practical, compliant, and competitive compensation solutions.

This role requires a balance of technical expertise, strong business partnering, and data-driven storytelling to influence decision-making and maintain alignment to Vancity’s compensation philosophy.

This is a Fulltime, Permanent role based at our Vancity head office and will report directly to the Manager, Compensation. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on‑site for events and business demands. How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Leading the design, governance, and ongoing administration of incentive and commission-based compensation plans, ensuring alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and internal policies
  • Acting as a trusted advisor to business leaders (Commercial, Retail, Wealth) on compensation plan design, pay mix, performance measures, and market practices
  • Managing end-to-end incentive plan processes, including eligibility, performance tracking, payout calculations, validation, and reporting
  • Ensuring strong governance and controls over compensation programs, including documentation, approval processes, audit readiness, and consistent policy application
  • Partnering with Finance, Payroll, and business teams to validate calculations, resolve discrepancies, and ensure accurate and timely payouts
  • Analyzing compensation and performance data, using tools such as Excel and Power BI, to generate insights and inform plan design and business decisions
  • Translating complex data into clear, actionable insights and recommendations for senior stakeholders
  • Supporting the continuous improvement of compensation frameworks, policies, and processes, particularly within incentive and variable pay structures
  • Contributing to annual compensation cycles, including merit, incentive payouts, and structural updates, with a focus on plan integrity and consistency
  • Providingeducation, guidance, and training to leaders and People & Culture partners on compensation programs, plan mechanics, and governance requirements

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • 5+ years of experience in compensation, with direct experience in incentive/commission plan design and administration
  • Experience supporting commercial banking, retail banking, wealth management, or other sales-driven environments
  • Strong understanding of plan governance, controls, and compliance (e.g., approvals, eligibility rules, documentation, audit readiness)
  • Demonstrated experience calculating and administering complex incentive plans, including performance measures and payout models
  • Advanced analytical skills, including Excel-based modeling and data manipulation
  • Experience with Power BI or other data visualization tools to support reporting and insights
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to balance technical precision and practical business needs
  • Proven ability to influence and advise senior stakeholders in a consultative manner
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex compensation concepts

Extra Skills That Set You Apart:

  • Experience supporting multiple compensation plan types (e.g., commission, production-based pay, scorecard-driven incentives)
  • Familiarity with financial services compensation structures and regulatory considerations
  • Experience with compensation governance frameworks, policy development, and plan documentation
  • CCP or progress toward certification

You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:

  • Analytical – You use your exceptional Excel skills to manipulate big sets of compensation data for data modeling/analytics capabilities; you have a slight obsession for details and precise work.
  • A Trusted Advisor – You consult on compensation & benefits related matters and can build strong working relationships with key stakeholders effectively.
  • A Great Communicator – With excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills, you are able to convey important changes and influence its adoption into best practices because you have credibility and are trusted as a subject matter expert when it comes to all things in the area of compensation.
  • A Proactive Leader – You take initiative while being creative in a constantly changing environment, while also remaining agile to flex as required.
  • Results-Oriented with a Process Improvement Mindset – You have a proven track record of delivering results and affinity towards process improvement in a changing and growing business environment.

We value lived experience, so if you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you feel your skills don't perfectly align with those listed. What You’ll Earn:

The salary range for this role is $86,400 per annum to $106,680 per annum. The base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements. Why You’ll Love Working Here:

A career at Vancity is more than just a job, you’re joining a tradition of change-makers who are creating lasting change for our communities. Beyond base pay, we offer a comprehensive total rewards package to ensure our employees are empowered to thrive:
