Job description

Our Story & Purpose:

We’re Vancity, a member-owned credit union built on the principles of inclusion and social justice. Since 1946, our relentless commitment to these values has helped us challenge the status quo and break down barriers. We’ve made bold commitments to become net-zero by 2040 across all mortgages and loans, and we’re actively pursuing strategies in Indigenous banking and financial resilience for our members.

As the largest private sector Living Wage Employer in Canada, we’re proud to be consistently recognized as one of the country’s Top Employers. If you’re ready to join our team of 2,300 diverse individuals, access competitive rewards and benefits, and be part of a greater movement - apply today!

Your Role in Supporting Our Members:

As a Building & Facilities Operator, you will support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of Vancity’s buildings and facilities through daily monitoring, basic troubleshooting, and coordination with service vendors. This role plays a key part in ensuring building systems run smoothly, supporting occupant comfort, regulatory compliance, and operational continuity. We are looking for a hands-on, safety‑focused facilities professional who is comfortable working on-site and collaborating with internal teams and external partners.

This is a Full-time, Permanent role based at our Vancity facilities in Vancouver and will report directly to the Manager, Facilities Management. This role is Monday to Friday and 35 hours per week

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Performing daily operational checks of HVAC, pumps, compressors, and basic mechanical systems
  • Monitoring building systems and escalating mechanical or safety issues promptly
  • Completing routine preventative maintenance tasks such as filter changes, lubrication, and inspections
  • Supporting seasonal start-up and shutdown activities under guidance
  • Assisting with water treatment monitoring and following regulatory compliance procedures
  • Coordinating vendor and contractor access for maintenance, repairs, and testing
  • Supporting emergency power, life-safety, and critical systems activities
  • Conducting daily rounds to help maintain occupant comfort and building reliability

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • 1–3 years of experience in building operations, facilities maintenance, or a related technical environment
  • Working knowledge of basic mechanical systems such as HVAC, pumps, and compressors
  • Experience supporting preventative maintenance programs
  • Ability to follow safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with vendors and escalate issues appropriately
  • Comfort working fully on-site in an operational facilities environment
  • Technical proficiency in Direct Digital Control (DDC) building automation systems and service request/ticketing platforms (e.g., Facilities or CMMS systems) for effective monitoring, troubleshooting, and work order management.

Extra Skills That Set You Apart: (if required)

  • Experience supporting data centre or other critical environments
  • Familiarity with water treatment monitoring or basic chemical handling
  • Exposure to generator, UPS, or life-safety system testing

You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:

  • Safety-focused – You prioritize safe work practices and regulatory compliance in everything you do
  • Detail-oriented – You notice early signs of wear or system issues and act quickly to escalate them
  • Collaborative – You work well with vendors, contractors, and internal partners
  • Reliable – You take ownership of daily checks and follow-through on assigned responsibilities

We value lived experience, so if you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you feel your skills don't perfectly align with those listed.

What You’ll Earn:

This role offers a salary range of $55,300 to $68,250 per annum. The base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • Living Wage Employer: We’re the largest private-sector Living Wage Employer in Canada and consistently ranked among Canada’s Top Employers.

  • Immediate Health Coverage: Health and dental benefits begin on your hire date, with three levels of coverage to choose from.
  • Defined Benefit Pension: Our retirement plan provides a guaranteed income for life, recognizing that retirement looks different for everyone.
