Job description

Swamper – Moving & Storage Crew (Edmonton) Burly Boyz Moving & Storage

Burly Boyz Moving & Storage is an industry-leading moving and storage company specializing in local moves in Edmonton and long-distance moves anywhere in Canada, plus short- and long-term storage solutions. We support an employee-first culture built on our 5 Core Values, and our mission is to be the greatest moving and storage company in Canada by delivering an unforgettable customer experience from beginning to end.

About the Role

The Swamper plays a critical, frontline role in delivering a top-notch customer experience. You'll work alongside the Driver/Team Leader, executing brand standards on every job. This role demands a balanced combination of manual labour and people skills — you're both a mover and a brand representative, putting clients at ease and delivering their best possible moving experience.

Pay Structure

  • Entry level (no experience): $20.00/hr
  • 3 years job experience: $22.00/hr
  • 5+ years job experience: $23.00/hr
  • +$1.00/hr premium for candidates with 3+ years of moving industry experience

Qualifications

  • Must consistently arrive on time and without delay for all scheduled shifts
  • Must be flexible regarding hours and days worked
  • Must be proficient in English (additional languages are an asset)

Physical Demands

  • Lift and carry upwards of 80 lbs alone, repeatedly over several hours
  • Hold upwards of 100 lbs or more alone or with a partner while moving items
  • Reach overhead, crouch, squat, grasp, twist, and navigate the body to safely move items through tight spaces, hallways, doorways, stairwells, and elevators
  • Stand for several consecutive hours

Customer Service Responsibilities

  • Be in dress code at all times
  • Advise clients on best practices to safely move their items, including bubble wrapping and boxing glass, porcelain, and other fragile items
  • Provide materials to support safe transport and inform your Driver/Team Leader to track inventory and charge appropriately
  • Inform your Driver/Team Leader where advice or material costs are refused
  • Always use floor runners to protect the home and proper equipment to safely do the job
  • Completely pad all furniture with moving blankets, covering all sides including underneath
  • Safely load, secure, transport, and unload items and furniture with minimal to no damage
  • Direct clients to your Driver/Team Leader for any inquiries about delivery dates, weighting, or estimates
  • Conduct every move with a positive, gracious, can-do attitude
  • Know brand policies, procedures, services, and products to answer client questions
  • Pay attention to client cues and communicate so items are placed exactly where they want them
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Create and maintain an exceptional client experience through high execution, compassion, and regard for safety, property, and hustle
  • Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle (cab and box)
  • Return all floor runners, tools, equipment, and materials properly and securely in the truck

Problem Solving & Reasoning

  • Apply foresight to anticipate challenges and avoid them before they arise
  • Safely solve problems by applying best practices
  • Offer solutions when partnering with the team
  • Stay true to brand policies if any client request conflicts with them
  • Partner with the team if you can't overcome a roadblock or need authority
  • Use good logic and sound judgement while providing service and transporting goods
  • Follow instructions in any form — verbal or written — from your Driver/Team Leader and office managers
  • Apply basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply)

Why This Role Matters

A team is only as strong as its weakest link. As a Swamper, you're on the frontline and directly impact the success of every move and the client's experience. The most effective Swampers are consistently on time, maintain a positive and eager attitude, and closely follow instructions from their Driver/Team Leader while showing initiative and constantly contributing.

If you're ready to be part of a hard-working, customer-focused team and help us become the greatest moving and storage company in Canada, we want to hear from you.
