Job description

About KOHO

We’re on a mission to make financial services better for every Canadian. That means no hidden fees, no predatory interest rates - just financial products designed to help our users spend smart, save more, and build real wealth. We’re a performance organization with a strong heart: we care deeply about outcomes, and everything ties back to our mission - to financially empower a generation of Canadians.

At KOHO, we’re not your average 9-5. We believe real impact comes from people who are trusted, empowered, and supported to do their best work - without sacrificing their lives to do it. We prioritize work-life integration, not just work-life balance. That means asynchronous collaboration, flexible hours, and a remote-first setup built around autonomy and high trust.

KOHO is entering its next chapter - leaner, smarter, more AI-integrated. We’re building for impact, not bureaucracy. If you thrive in environments that value clarity, ownership, and bold thinking, you’ll fit right in.

About The Role

KOHO is looking for a Senior Manager, Financial Risk Strategy & Analytics to lead key strategy and analytics initiatives within our financial risk management function. Bridging the gap between deep technical analysis and strategic leadership, you will own complex models and forecasts while mentoring a team of analysts. Working closely with Finance, Product, and Data teams, you will turn complex data into actionable insights, ensuring our growth is resilient and compliant while safeguarding KOHO’s portfolio.

What You'll Do

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Manage and mentor a team of individual contributors across Financial Risk domains.

  • Foster a culture of rigorous analysis, ownership, and continuous improvement.

Financial Risk Analytics & Forecasting

  • Forecasting & Provisioning: Lead the development, execution, and enhancement of short- and long-term delinquency and loss forecasting models. Oversee Expected Credit Loss (ECL) calculations and the monthly provisioning process in strict accordance with IFRS 9 standards.

  • Stress Testing: Execute and review stress tests for financial risks to ensure KOHO maintains adequate liquidity and capital buffers in line with regulatory requirements and internal risk appetite. Design, execute, and refine comprehensive stress testing scenarios to assess portfolio resilience under adverse macroeconomic conditions.

  • Market & Liquidity Risk: Oversee monitoring and reporting frameworks for non-credit financial risks, including interest rate, market, and liquidity risk. Perform a second line of defense role in understanding and challenging the data, models, and assumptions used in risk assessments.

  • Portfolio Monitoring: Oversee portfolio health monitoring, identifying emerging trends and risks through rigorous analysis of internal performance data and external indicators. Identify opportunities for automated anomaly detection.

  • Impact Assessment: Partner with Product and Marketing to assess the credit risk impact of new initiatives, quantifying potential effects on delinquency, losses, and provisions before launch.

  • Model Risk Management: Performs second line oversight of models used in decisions impacting financial risk.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Insight Generation

  • Reporting & Insights: Produce and present high-quality reporting for senior leadership, translating complex analytical results into clear, strategic recommendations.

  • Data Strategy: Collaborate with Data Analytics and Data Science to enhance data pipelines and infrastructure, identifying new data sources, and ensuring the integrity and availability of risk data. Act as a steward for critical risk data.

  • Strategic Partnership: Work closely with Finance on capital planning and economic forecasting, and with Product to optimize credit strategies based on risk-adjusted returns.

Who You Are

Experience & Education

  • 6-8 years of experience in financial risk management, with deep hands-on experience in retail credit risk analytics, loss forecasting, and treasury risk.

  • Leadership: Proven experience leading analytical workstreams and managing or mentoring individual contributors.

  • Education: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Engineering) or equivalent practical experience.

Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Expertise: Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, or SAS for data manipulation and modeling. Deep understanding of IFRS 9 standards, ECL methodologies, and stress testing frameworks.

  • Analytical Rigor: Exceptional ability to independently build complex models, perform root cause analysis, and ensure high standards of quality across the team's output.

  • Risk Knowledge: Familiarity with market and liquidity risk concepts, ALM (Asset Liability Management), and stress testing frameworks.

  • Communication: Strong ability to tell a story with data, clearly explaining technical risk concepts and their business implications to non-technical stakeholders and senior executive leadership.

  • Builder Mindset: You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where you often need to build tools, processes, and frameworks from scratch.

KOHO is for builders

If you’re energized by challenge, motivated by mission, and want to be part of a team that punches above its weight, we want to hear from you. The KOHO culture is one of collaboration, creativity, and diverse perspectives. We are committed to building and fostering an inclusive, accessible environment for everyone.

AI Disclosure: KOHO uses artificial intelligence (AI) in certain aspects of its recruitment process to screen, assess, or select applicants.

The budgeted salary range for this role is $180,000 - 240,000 CAD / year.

At KOHO, we are dedicated to providing pay transparency to all candidates. Compensation at KOHO is determined through various factors including but not limited to: comparable salary market data within Canada, technical skill assessment, a holistic view of previous work history, and internal pay equity with other KOHO team members.
