Job description
Line of Business: Service & Support

Reporting to the Director Sustainable Resource Development the Environment & Sustainability Manager is responsible for assisting with the environmental compliance and performance requirements at all assigned facilities in Southern Alberta Saskatchewan and Manitoba. This role works with multiple levels of management to support all environmental permitting due diligence assessments reporting and all required compliance activities for Heidelbergs construction materials business including sand gravel and hard rock mines concrete ready-mix plants and re-cast pipe plants. This position is ideal for someone who is self-motivated and enjoys problem solving and collaborating in a team setting.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Lead operational permitting applications environmental impact assessments and associated stakeholder engagement required to develop new aggregate reserves and to establish facilities for the material businesses.
  • Prepare and coordinate all environmental permits reports and related requirements for facilities.
  • Manage the due diligence and environmental assessments for land acquisitions and divestments.
  • Interpret impacts to business lines from current and emerging environmental regulatory requirements at all levels including Federal Provincial County Municipality City etc.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of environmental systems programs and strategies and promote environmental best practices at all facilities.
  • In collaboration with Corporate and Operational management ensure standards programs and initiatives are implemented integrated and effective.
  • Identify environmental issues that require capital expenditure assist in the preparation of requests for capital approvals and lead the implementation of the chosen solution.
  • Ensure compliance requirements are met through organizational and procedural measures including implementation of corporate guidelines completion of required training and monitoring compliance.
  • Provide guidance and training to all levels of the organization to ensure all employees act in an environmentally responsible manner and carry out their activities in compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and legislation.
  • Complete site inspections and audits providing recommendations and ensuring follow-up on corrective actions.

What Are We Looking For

  • Bachelors degree in Environmental or related field needed.
  • 5 - 7 years of experience needed.
  • Experience in construction materials (i.e. concrete aggregates) or other heavy industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and agencies sustainability practices and compliance frameworks.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and influence positive outcomes.
  • Skill in analyzing data identifying trends and developing practical solutions.
  • Clear communication abilities both written and verbal with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to promote good relationships with regulatory agencies community and first-nations.
  • Commitment to advancing environmental performance and supporting organizational sustainability goals.

Work Environment

  • This role operates within a dynamic industrial setting that includes both office and field-based work.
  • Travel to various sites throughout southern Alberta Saskatchewan and Manitoba may be required.
  • The position involves partnering closely with operational teams and adapting to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary: $111670 - $148903
