Qualifications: An MFA degree with a focus in acting or equivalent acting experience and experience in teaching introductory acting to undergraduate students. Knowledge of performance in relation to voice and speech training would be considered an asset. Applicants must possess knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit culture. Instructor must be able to communicate verbally in one or more languages of First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit; have experience in language immersion techniques, in particular the “communicative method” of language acquisition; teach the language using a variety of traditional and contemporary methodologies, and especially via performance.

This course is also a requirement within the Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education Program (SUNTEP) which is a four year, fully accredited direct entry Bachelor of Education program offered by the Gabriel Dumont Institute in cooperation with the University of Saskatchewan and the Ministry of Education. Qualified applicants will possess knowledge on Métis history, Michif language, and have experience in language immersion techniques, in particular the “communicative method” of language acquisition; teach the language using a variety of traditional and contemporary methodologies, and especially via performance.

*This course section is part of the Indigenous Student Achievement Pathways (ISAP) which bundles advisory, co-curricular and curricular programming to support the retention and success of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students in the College of Arts & Science.
Additional qualifications required for sessional instructors of ISAP sections include the following:
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous community priorities and perspectives, and attention to socio-economic, inter-generational, and educational barriers that unequally affect Indigenous post-secondary cohorts in Saskatchewan
- Familiarity with Indigenous perspectives and research methodologies as they connect to relevant academic disciplines, and to the development of skills for student success in those disciplines
- Experience teaching using methods that promote collaborative and peer-to-peer learning in small course cohorts
- Experience teaching mature student cohorts and students with nonstandard K-12 preparation in relevant academic disciplines
- Demonstrated intercultural competence and commitment to pedagogic praxis (reflection and reflexive adaptation of teaching)

Evidence of effective teaching in text analysis, performance styles, and historically informed approaches to forms such as tragedy, comedy of manners, farce, absurdism, expressionism, and epic theatre is essential, along with the ability to mentor students in advanced performance practices.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a significant record of professional practice in movement-based performance, with expertise in advanced movement methodologies (, Laban, Viewpoints, physical theatre, stage combat, or somatic practices).
A valid driver’s license is required for any off-campus courses. Appointment periods include additional days in recognition of preparation and marking time required. Courses may be cancelled due to low enrolment.
