Health & Safety Specialist - NORTH BAY ONTARIO


An exciting opportunity is available for a Health & Safety professional to join a forward-thinking organization in North Bay. As a key partner to site leadership, you will play an integral role in driving health and safety performance, enhancing training programs, and supporting the development of safe, sustainable operations.



  • Implement the organization’s Health & Safety (H&S) strategy, policies, systems, and standards at the site level to drive consistent, sustainable performance, while contributing to the development of improved practices that can be applied across the broader organization.
  • Partner with and influence senior leadership to strengthen health and safety leadership through active engagement, coaching, and practical support to line management.
  • Serve as the site superuser for the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring training content is effectively assigned, tracked, and completed. Identify opportunities to enhance compliance and improve the overall effectiveness of training delivery.
  • Review existing training materials and develop new digital learning content using tools such as Articulate or similar e-learning platforms.
  • Coordinate site orientation and training programs, assessing their effectiveness and leveraging data from observations, inspections, and incidents to continuously improve onboarding processes.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to develop monthly safety meeting content, and support supervisors in delivering these sessions through participation, coaching, and regular attendance.
  • Conduct audits and lead action planning by evaluating key program areas (e.g., Emergency Response, Machine Guarding, Lockout/Tagout, Contractor Management, WHMIS, First Aid) using observations, interviews, surveys, and documentation reviews.
  • Ensure effective systems and processes are in place to proactively identify, assess, and report hazards, including appropriate change management practices involving key stakeholders.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments, identifying opportunities to enhance processes and procedures.
  • Develop and implement action plans to address high-risk hazards, including facilitating focus groups with managers, supervisors, and employees.
  • Analyze leading and lagging H&S indicators to provide actionable insights and recommendations to site leadership for continuous program improvement.
  • Review incident investigations and trends, supporting supervisors in determining root causes, identifying corrective actions, and ensuring timely follow-up and closure.
  • Prepare and submit workplace injury/illness reports as required, and support leaders in managing return-to-work programs, including modified duties coordination and case follow-up.
  • Provide guidance and administrative support to the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), and maintain up-to-date safety communications through boards, digital platforms, or other channels.


  • Qualifications
  • Health, Safety related certificate, diploma, degree, or equivalent
  • Five or more years working in a Health and Safety role required
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment as well as experience with implementing new safety program in a “greenfield” site is an asset
