Job Summary

This position plays a lead role in supporting the Principal Investigator and Executive Committee to ensure the successful delivery of project objectives for the Cluster in Vision Research: From Molecules to Behavior to Society at the University of British Columbia (UBC), based at the Eye Care Centre (ECC)


Organizational Status

The Research and Knowledge Translation Facilitator will work directly with Dr. Matsubara and the advisory committee of the Vision Research Cluster.

Work Performed

· Coordinates collaboration across investigators, trainees, staff, and external partners to support delivery of Vision Research Cluster research and training activities.

· Contributes to the development of research outputs, including grants, manuscripts, and collaboration materials, working closely with investigators.

· Identifies funding opportunities and to support proposal development and strategic planning

· Oversees the delivery of research-related events and engagement activities, ensuring alignment with Cluster objectives and stakeholder needs.

· Contributes to the implementation and refinement of Cluster initiatives

· Participates in operational planning including progress updates and renewal processes.

· Develops experiential learning pathways for trainees by working with internal and external partners to identify placements and engagement opportunities


Consequence of Error/Judgement

Working with unpublished grant details, budgets, project records and study data, this position entails a high level of confidentiality and accuracy. Implications of decisions or advice may result in loss of grant funding, and legal and/or financial liability.


Supervision Received

Reports to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Joanne Matsubara; works closely with and may take direction from other lead cluster members.

Supervision Given

May assign and review work of technicians, support staff, or students.

Minimum Qualifications


Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

· An MD or PhD in a relevant discipline and three years of experience in research coordination is preferred. Experience in grant writing and facilitation is preferred. Previous experience working with healthcare researchers or in a research administration role at UBC or its affiliated hospitals is considered an asset, but not required.

· The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills, and will be responsible for coordinating projects and grant applications among team members (faculty and trainees), collaborators, and community partners within UBC, across Canada, and internationally.

· The candidate will also develop and maintain social media platforms and liaise with the biotechnology industry to support the development of academic–industry partnerships.

Additional qualifications and experience include:

· Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office

· Knowledge Translation Professional certification is an asset

· Experience working with partners representing people with lived and living experience (PWLLE) is an asset

· Familiarity with Patient-Oriented Research is an asset

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities

· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment

· Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines under pressure

· High level of attention to detail and accuracy

· Ability to exercise tact, discretion, and diplomacy
