The Physical Security Access Control Specialist is responsible for the administration, coordination, and continuous improvement of the organization’s physical access control and badging program across corporate offices and data center environments. This role supports security operations through access control governance, credential lifecycle management, compliance auditing, and coordination of security related service requests through JIRA workflows.
Job RequirementsDesired Skills, Qualifications and Competencies include:
- In-depth knowledge of physical security operations, including video surveillance, intrusion detection, and access control systems.
- Experience securing classified, research, or highly regulated environments, including government facilities, critical infrastructure environments, and HPC data centres.
- Experience managing access control workflows, credentialing, and audit processes.
- Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks such as DoD, NIST, ISO 27001/27002, NERC CIP, and/or CMMC.
- Strong incident management, crisis communication, and investigation skills.
- Strong proficiency in enterprise security operations and integrated security technology solutions, including enterprise-level platforms such as Genetec, LenelS2, and Avigilon systems.
- Able to learn new software applications/programs quickly and effectively.
- Certifications preferred: CPP (ASIS Certified Protection Professional), PSP (Physical Security Professional), CISM, or CPTED.
- Post-secondary education in a relevant practice (security systems technology and/or physical security), or equivalent.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, and basic project or inventory management tools.
- Familiarity with JIRA or similar ticketing/workflow management systems.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple requests and priorities in fast paced environments.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate effectively with vendors and internal teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Minimum Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience administering enterprise access control within physical security systems.
- Experience working with enterprise access control platforms such as Motorola Solutions / Avigilon Alta, LenelS2, Genetec, CCURE, or similar platforms preferred.
- Experience managing access control workflows, credentialing, and audit processes.
- Familiarity with JIRA or similar ticketing/workflow management systems.
- Familiarity with credentialing processes and identity verification practices in a regulated or high-security environment.
- Experience supporting compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001, SOC 2, NERC CIP, or similar.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and reporting tools.
- A clear Criminal Record Check is required.
- Holds a Valid BC Security Worker’s License.
- May require after hours support for urgent access related issues, audits, or security incidents.
Job ResponsibilitiesThe
Physical Security Access Control Specialist will focus on the following as well as other job-related duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Administer enterprise access control platforms, credential databases, and badging systems.
- Process and manage employee, contractor, vendor, and visitor access requests.
- Coordinate provisioning, modification, suspension, and revocation of physical access credentials.
- Manage access groups, access levels, schedules, and door permissions based on approved authorization workflows.
- Maintain accurate badge holder records, credential inventories, and access documentation.
- Manage badge printing operations, badge photo collection and quality control, and credential issuance processes.
- Oversee badge stock, printers, consumables, and related supply inventories.
- Coordinate replacement badges, temporary badges, and lost or stolen credential investigations.
- Support enterprise smart card and mobile credential programs where applicable.
- Support enterprise key management program and database.
- Ensure ticket requests contain proper approvals and supporting documentation prior to execution.
- Administer background check and verification processes in compliance with corporate policy.
- Track service delivery metrics, ticket completion timelines, and audit trails.
- Support development and refinement of physical security workflow automation.
- Conduct periodic badge and door access audits to validate access appropriateness and compliance.
- Support internal and external compliance initiatives including ISO 27001, SOC 2, customer audits, and other regulatory or contractual requirements.
- Generate audit reports, access review documentation, and compliance evidence packages including footage retrieval for authorized requests.
- Assist with customer access reviews and audit inquiries related to physical security controls.
- Monitor adherence to physical security policies, standards, and procedures.
- Deliver end user training for badge administration processes, access request workflows, and security procedures.
- Provide guidance and support to site administrators and operational stakeholders regarding access control processes and best practices.
- Coordinate with security integrators, vendors, HR, IT, and Operations teams to support onboarding, offboarding, and security projects.
- Assist in development of policies, SOPs, training materials, and security documentation.
- Coordinate ad-hoc and event day credentialing operations including policy creation, set up and troubleshooting of credential readers and other access control tools.
- Maintain system health documentation.
- Supports Security and Safety stakeholders with regards to integrating access control processes and reports with regards to Emergency Response Plans.
- Support CCTV and physical security investigations involving access control or credential misuse through ticket intake, coordination, and evidence tracking.
- Support rollout of new security technologies, software, readers, credential standards, and security platforms.

- The expected base salary for this role starts at $88,000 - $120,000 CAD.
- Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and market data for the region.
