The Opportunity

The Specialist, Regulatory Effectiveness & Sustainment plays a key role in advancing the Alberta Energy Regulator’s (AER) model for risk-informed decisions, the Regulatory Decision Framework (RDF). This role supports the delivery of enterprise initiatives that implement and sustain the RDF, enabling risk‑informed, consistent, and defensible regulatory decision‑making across the full lifecycle of energy and mineral resource development in Alberta.

As part of the Regulatory Effectiveness & Sustainment team, you will work across the organization to address complex, cross‑functional regulatory challenges and deliver practical, high‑impact solutions aligned with the RDF.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Support the delivery of enterprise initiatives that advance the implementation and stewardship of the RDF.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define issues, assess impacts, and implement solutions.

  • Support change management and sustainment through training, mentoring, and stakeholder engagement.

  • 5+ years of experience in energy or mineral resources regulation, operations, or compliance.

  • Knowledge of the AER’s mandate, legislation, and regulatory framework, with the ability to apply critical thinking in complex environments.

  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex concepts.

  • Proven ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, and deliver in complex, enterprise environments.

  • Change management and/or project management training or certification is considered an asset.
