What you’ll do

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Writer to join our Strategic Partnerships team in a parental leave coverage role. Reporting to the Associate Director, Strategic Partnerships, the Senior Writer will be a key contributor, responsible for crafting compelling, customized stewardship reports tailored to BCCHF’s generous donors. In this role, you will manage multiple complex writing projects while collaborating with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including our Donor Experience, Communications, and Philanthropy teams, as well as Hospital and Research staff. Your work will directly contribute to deepening donor relationships and advancing our mission.

As Senior Writer, you will blend the art of storytelling with exceptional interviewing skills to craft impactful fundraising communications that illustrate the profound impact of philanthropy. You will use your creativity and keen understanding of how to harness the power of meaningful stories and collaborative relationships with partners to inspire donors and accelerate change in child health through your writing.

Additionally, you will:

  • Create customized and compelling stewardship reports and other collateral that inspire donors and help build ongoing relationships through storytelling.
  • Ensure content is impactful, relevant, and timely, guided by clear audience needs, and organizational priorities.
  • Edit and proofread written materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency, maintaining high standards of quality in all content.
  • Use experience to guide and mentor team members.
  • Work collaboratively with team members in crafting compelling collateral that is engaging and effectively communicates the impact of donor generosity.
  • Take the lead in overseeing the assignment and management of stewardship writing projects.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with teams at the Foundation, BC Children’s Hospital and BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute to support content development.
  • Ensure consistent and compelling tone and execution of the brand guidelines in all materials.
  • Share expertise and insights with colleagues both individually and in group settings to foster a collaborative and informed team environment

With a strategic and curious mindset, you’ll collaborate with a dynamic team to challenge conventional thinking, elevate our storytelling, and drive meaningful progress in our work.

In addition, you will bring:

  • A Diploma or Degree in Fundraising, Journalism, and/or Business Administration or related field.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience with a strong focus on writing, fundraising, stewardship, or similar roles, within a complex hospital fundraising environment.
  • Superb interviewing and editing skills, paired with a keen eye for detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex and technical medical/scientific information into clear, engaging, and donor-friendly language.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to foster positive working relationships with diverse internal and external individual partners.
  • A natural affinity for our values to Think Big, Lead with Heart and Step Up.
  • Sense of accountability and ownership of your work while being open to feedback.
  • Experience and knowledge of the not-for-profit or fundraising sector is considered an asset.
  • Have a passion for child health and the work of BC Children’s Hospital.
  • Ability to manage multiple writing assignments and related tasks.
  • Good judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), Raiser’s Edge or other database experience is an asset.
  • Proficiency in utilizing web-based tools such as MARQ, Wrike, and Asana to enhance workflow and project management.
