Job description
Your Opportunity: The successful candidate will be a member of a team that provides Physiotherapy services to children and families, including assessment and intervention, provision of rehabilitation/consultation services to staff, and community with a focus on AADL equipment authorization. This position also provides input into PT services and development, planning, and evaluation. The Pediatric Community PT’s practice involves health promotion and primary rehabilitation for children and families. The program has a strong strengths based, client centered approach, using responsive interaction strategies. Clinical areas of focus include motor development, play, as well as environmental factors (social, cultural, organizational, and institutional).The position works with a wide range of client needs and developmental concerns. The successful candidate will provide physical therapy services to children and families with developmental or neurological impairments to maintain their independence and safety within their homes and community. This will be done through assessment of the child in clinics and their living environment. The primary funding source access is the Alberta Aids to daily Living Program. Working with minimal supervision, the physical therapist will use their strong assessment and intervention skills to ensure clients receive appropriate equipment and know how to use them safely. The candidate will also be linking clients to other community resources and working closely with and assigning tasks to therapy assistants. Travel to a variety of locations within Edmonton Zone, including home visits, is required.

Description: As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program.

Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Pediatric Physical Therapist.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision yet able to demonstrate understanding of team approach in client service is required.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills paired with excellent organizational and time management skills.

Alberta Aids to Daily Living Program (AADL) is wheelchair authorization.

A vehicle in good working condition and a valid driver’s license.

Must be able to meet physical demands which may include lifting, bending, carrying, twisting, reaching, crouching, sitting/standing for prolonged periods.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants with recent experience and familiarity with community agencies involved with the target population.

Experience working with interdisciplinary teams.

Experience working in EMR is considered an asset.
