About the Role As a junior-intermediate project engineer, you are responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy industrial engineering projects from initiation through completion. You manage project teams, schedules, budgets, and client relationships to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification. You navigate the complexities of industrial environments — stakeholder management, regulatory requirements, and operational constraints — while coordinating multidisciplinary teams across mechanical, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and process disciplines. This role focuses on contributing to project success through diligent execution, schedule and cost discipline, and effective team leadership. You will be required to work around constraints of heavy industrial environments including — resource coordination, key project milestones, regulatory requirements, and integration with ongoing client operations — and to grow in the consulting business through client interactions, proposal development.. You contribute to building Engcomp's reputation through consistent execution and the delivery of projects that meet design requirements, schedule, and budget objectives. Responsibilities Project Coordination & Execution Support - Assist in the development of project execution plans, schedules, and work breakdown structures under guidance of senior project managers. - Coordinate project activities across multiple disciplines including engineering teams. - Support project milestone tracking, deliverable management, and progress reporting. - Maintain project documentation, filing systems, and communication records. - Assist in tracking project scope changes and supporting change order processing. - Contribute to monthly project reporting and create estimates to complete for ongoing work. - Monitor project metrics and collaborate with the project team to implement preventative and mitigative strategies as appropriate. Schedule & Resource Management - Support development and maintenance of project schedules using project management software. - Assist in resource allocation planning and coordination across project phases. - Monitor project timelines and identify potential scheduling conflicts or delays. - Coordinate team member assignments and track availability and workload. - Support critical path analysis and schedule recovery planning. Client & Stakeholder Communication - Participate in client meetings, project status reviews, and stakeholder presentations. - Prepare project status reports, meeting minutes, and progress dashboards. - Support client relationship management activities and routine project communications. - Assist in managing client expectations and addressing project inquiries. - Coordinate with regulatory bodies and permit authorities under supervision. Budget & Cost Management Support - Support project budget development and cost tracking activities - Track project costs against budgets and identify potential cost overruns. - Support financial reporting and change order cost analysis. Risk Analysis & Monte Carlo Simulation - Support project risk identification, assessment, and mitigation planning. - Contribute to the creation of project risk registers and risk management plans. - Support project execution as a modeller for the completion of CSRA. - Using project information from risk registers, cost estimates, and schedules, build Monte Carlo models to analyze cost uncertainty profiles. - Produce cost, schedule, and risk data sheets and output reports to help establish contingency and risk reserve budgets for projects. - Help facilitate risk workshops. Contractor & Vendor Coordination - Coordinate with external contractors, consultants, and equipment suppliers. - Support contractor performance monitoring and contract administration.. - Manage contractor schedules and deliverable coordination. - Support subcontractor communication and issue resolution. Quality Assurance & Documentation - Support project quality control processes and deliverable reviews. - Maintain project databases, document control systems, and filing protocols. - Assist in preparation of project reports and client deliverables. - Support project closeout activities and lessons learned documentation. - Help ensure compliance with company standards and client requirements. Business Development & Proposal Support - Assist in proposal preparation and bid development activities. - Support market research and competitive analysis efforts. - Participate in client presentations and business development meetings. - Learn project estimation techniques and cost development processes. - Contribute to company marketing materials and capability presentations. Continuous Learning & Professional Development - Pursue project management certifications and professional development opportunities. - Develop knowledge of heavy industrial project engineering and management practices and methodologies. - Participate in industry conferences, training programs, and knowledge sharing initiatives. - Seek mentorship and guidance from senior project managers and engineers. - Contribute to internal best practices development and process improvement. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Engineering (mechanical, structural, electrical, or related discipline) from an accredited institution. - Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Saskatchewan, or plan to work towards registration - Minimum 0–5 years of progressive project engineering or project management experience in a heavy industrial environment. - Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating multidisciplinary project teams on capital or maintenance projects. - PMP certification, is an asset. Skills (Experience or Interest to Develop) - project management fundamentals: scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality, and stakeholder management. - project management software for scheduling, resource planning, and progress tracking (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent). - developing and managing project budgets, tracking costs, and analyzing cost performance. - project risk identification, risk register development, and mitigation planning. coordinating contractors, vendors, and procurement activities in an industrial setting. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve project issues independently. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client-facing reporting, status presentations, and internal coordination. - Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate the work of engineers, designers, and technical staff. - Ability to self-manage work (prioritize work requests under critical schedule conditions) Preferred Skills - Experience in heavy industrial sectors such as potash, uranium, oil and gas, or chemical processing. - Exposure to Monte Carlo simulation and quantitative risk analysis (CSRA or similar). - Exposure toproposal preparation,document development. - Experience working on both capital and maintenance projects. - Familiarity with AACE cost-estimating practices and contingency / risk reserve development. - Familiarity with regulatory and permitting processes in industrial project environments.
