(HEC) is currently seeking a Junior Biologist for our team. The position is mostly field based in Alberta and work-from-home when not in the field. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in a multi-disciplinary role i.e. soils, vegetation, wildlife, fisheries, wetland assessments and regulatory. The ideal candidate should be a motivated, service-oriented individual who takes on new challenges and strives to learn and improve processes. The role will involve field planning, field assessments, monitoring, and reporting for new developments and operational programs in the Oil & Gas, Infrastructure/Utility and Energy industries. Key services include: soil assessments, wildlife sweeps and surveys, wetland assessment, watercourse and fish habitat assessment, environmental monitoring and regulatory approval applications. Responsibilities - Assist and conduct various field assessments (wildlife sweeps & surveys, soil assessment, fish habitat assessment etc.). - Contribute to regulatory applications, and technical reports. - Staying up-to-date on applicable provincial and federal legislation and general trends in the technical field. - Participate in the development, implementation and continued improvement of safety programs including assisting with the preparation and development of best practices, standards, and procedures. Required Qualifications - A bachelor’s degree or diploma in environmental sciences or similar. - Eligible for professional accreditation through the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (ASPB) or the Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA). - Well versed in Microsoft Office. - Basic understanding of geospatial software i.e. ArcPro, GISOnline - Knowledge of the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Public Lands Act, Water Act, Wetland Policy, Wildlife Act, Fisheries Act, Species at Risk Act, Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) Rule 007, and the Master Schedule of Standards of Conditions. - Detail-oriented with strong time management skills. - Clear effective communicator with strong technical writing skills and verbal communication skills. - Highly organized and can prioritize multiple tasks. - The ability to provide practical and efficient solutions to problems. - Fitness suitable to complete field assessments in varying conditions. Preferred Qualifications - Experience and certification in electro-fishing. - Understanding of the Canadian Soil Classification System. - Proficiency in identifying wildlife species. - Experience navigating regulatory application and approvals processes with Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA), Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) and the AUC. - Previous project management experience relating to biology or environmental sciences and relevant oil and gas, renewable energy, infrastructure or construction experience.
