Job descriptionOne of our clients, a major oil and gas company has tasked us with identifying a Materials and Corrosion Engineer / Specialist to support pressure equipment integrity activities at their site in Fort Saskatchewan, AB. This position is offered as an 1 year contract, working a 5/40 schedule, fully on site, and is being brought in to provide dedicated support to turnaround operations and related integrity work scopes. The successful professional will be responsible for ensuring the ongoing integrity of pressure equipment by owning and maintaining unit corrosion control documents, which serve as the foundation for Pressure Equipment Integrity Management. The role involves proactively identifying potential materials degradation risks associated with process or equipment changes, while working closely with operations, maintenance, engineering and inspection teams to ensure integrity issues are properly understood and resolved. This position provides technical input to the Unit Inspector during scope development, including repair and alteration plans for pressure vessels, and delivers technical assurance on Management of Change (MOC) matters related to pressure equipment — with a strong focus on supporting upcoming and ongoing turnaround activities. Accountabilities - Provide engineering support to projects involving materials specification, selection and design reviews. - Own and maintain Corrosion Control Documents (CCDs) and care strategies for static equipment, including the RBI living program and Integrity Operating Window (IOW) monitoring tags. - Oversee long‑term health of Cathodic Protection systems and evaluate the effectiveness of water treatment chemicals in preventing corrosion. - Deliver technical assurance within the MOC process for all materials and corrosion‑related issues. - Review and provide technical input while ensuring adherence to applicable standards (DEP, ISO/API, etc.) for new installations, retrofits and modifications. - Lead, own or support causal investigations, structured problem solving, lessons‑from‑incident reviews, and failure analyses. - Prioritize and drive Manage Threat and Opportunity (MTO) root cause analyses and develop long‑term solutions aligned with site priorities. - Collaborate proactively with operations, maintenance, engineering and inspection teams to resolve short‑term equipment integrity issues. - Provide dedicated corrosion and materials engineering support during turnaround work‑scope development, challenge sessions, planning and execution. - Contribute technical input across site processes including MTO, MOC, RCM, HEMP, PTIE and RADAR/SONAR to enhance reliability and safety. - Support Inspectors and Engineers by analyzing inspection data, RBI reassessments and revalidations, and contribute to repair/alteration plans and interval extension evaluations. - Remain up to date with industry learnings within the materials and corrosion discipline. - Communicate outcomes of long‑term strategic initiatives to the responsible asset. - Review and approve WPS documentation. - Promote Enterprise First behaviours around leadership, accountability and teamwork while supporting ongoing quality and reliability initiatives. Qualifications - BS or MS in Chemical Engineering or Materials Engineering, or a Technical Diploma in Materials or Welding Technology. - Strong proficiency in RBI methodologies and tools. - 8+ years of relevant industry experience in materials, corrosion, pressure equipment integrity or related fields.
