The Opportunity Lead integrated environmental delivery across ecosystems, communities, and construction phases.
This is a senior leadership opportunity to shape
Ecological and Environmental Impact Assessment (EcoEIA) strategy and delivery across British Columbia , one of Canada’s most environmentally complex and highly regulated jurisdictions.
As
Director, Ecology & Environmental Impact Assessment – British Columbia , you will lead a multidisciplinary practice delivering
terrestrial, aquatic, and marine biology; socio-economic assessment; Indigenous engagement; environmental planning and approvals; project management; and construction environmental management . You will guide projects across their full lifecycle—from baseline studies and impact assessment through regulatory approvals, construction, and monitoring.
A critical component of this role is
driving operational excellence —establishing consistent, efficient, and high-quality delivery models across all service lines, strengthening project performance, and enabling scalable, sustainable growth across the region.
Based
preferably in Vancouver
(with flexibility for
Victoria, Kelowna, or Kamloops ), this role supports major projects across the province, including energy transition, mining, transportation, water, infrastructure, and community development initiatives.
Your Impact
Drive growth, market and strategic leadership
in ecology and environmental impact assessment services across British Columbia
Support in setting regional vision, priorities, and performance targets , aligned with national environmental and sustainability strategies
Establish and embed operational excellence frameworks
across ecology and EIA services to improve consistency, efficiency, and quality of delivery
Standardize project delivery approaches, tools, and methodologies
to enhance predictability, margin performance, and risk management
Drive continuous improvement initiatives , leveraging data, lessons learned, and innovation to optimize project outcomes
Strengthen project governance , including scope management, financial performance, scheduling, and quality assurance
Foster a culture of accountability and high performance , empowering teams to deliver safely, efficiently, and to the highest professional standards
Lead and mentor senior technical specialists, project managers, and emerging leaders , building a high-performing and inclusive team
Strengthen client relationships and expand strategic accounts
through trusted advisory leadership and technical credibility
Champion meaningful Indigenous engagement , supporting respectful partnerships and integration of Indigenous knowledge into project delivery
Champion safety, quality, and risk management
across all programs and service lines
Represent the organization
with clients, regulators, Indigenous Nations, and stakeholders across BC
Skills that You'll Bring to WSP
A strong drive to
build and grow a leading environmental practice
in British Columbia
15+ years of progressive experience
in environmental consulting, with a focus on ecology, environmental impact assessment, and regulatory approvals
Demonstrated experience across a
broad spectrum of environmental services , including biological sciences, socio-economic assessment, Indigenous engagement, and construction environmental management
Professional designation (e.g.,
RPBio, P.Biol., P.Geo., P.Eng. , or equivalent), or eligibility for registration in British Columbia
Proven leadership experience overseeing
regional or multi-office multidisciplinary teams
Strong working knowledge of
BC and federal environmental legislation and assessment processes
Demonstrated success in
client development, relationship management, and business growth
Experience working collaboratively with
Indigenous Nations and communities
in BC
Ability to lead across
diverse ecosystems, geographies, and stakeholder environments
Background in
aquatic, terrestrial, or marine ecology , with fish and aquatic biology expertise considered an asset but not required

Compensation AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT:
$146,000 – $201,000 MB & ON:
$141,000 – $194,000 NB, NL, NS, PE & QC:
$134,000 – $185,000
