Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer
to join our team in
Vancouver, British Columbia
(Full Time). This role focuses on a variety of geotechnical engineering projects across industries such as transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, and more.
Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer (2026050167) Responsibilities
Provide technical support and leadership on projects and for staff, including conducting technical reviews of calculations and analyses, and performing technical analyses where appropriate.
Guide and support coordination, preparation of cost estimates, tender submissions, technical documentation, client reports, progress reports, project scheduling and resourcing, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.
Scope projects and assist in proposal preparation.
Support mentoring, coaching, and training of staff.
Promote Thurber values among staff.
Establish, develop, promote and maintain relationships with clients.
Actively participate in the field on a project‑specific basis to meet client expectations and project objectives.
Manage projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.
Travel to project locations, client offices and other Thurber branch offices.
Qualifications and Assets
Completion of a post‑secondary program in Civil or Geological Engineering, Engineering Geology, or Geoscience.
5 to 10 years of relevant experience in Geotechnical Engineering with strong understanding of local geology.
Valid Class 5 Driver's license.
Comfortable driving mid‑ to full‑sized pickup trucks in urban, rural and construction environments.
Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including local and remote construction sites.
Proficiency with spoken and written English is required.
Membership with EGBC.
Other Desirable Attributes
Graduate Degree (Masters or higher).
General understanding of Western Canadian geomorphology and associated landforms, processes, and hazards.
Ability to conduct desktop and field‑level terrain assessments.
Experience with interpretation and utilization of aerial photographs, satellite and LiDAR imagery in terrain and geohazard assessment.
Experience with commercial analytical software packages for slope stability assessment.
Pipeline routing and trenchless crossing assessments.
Familiarity with geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring of geohazards.
Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong computer skills ( spreadsheet and word‑processing).
Ability to work independently and cooperate with a team in various environments.
Base Salary Range
$110,000 - $128,000 per year, based on a 40‑hour work week.
The posted wage range for this position represents the range for the experience and qualifications noted in this posting.
The offered wage may be adjusted upward for candidates whose qualifications and experience exceed those expressed in this posting.
Candidates with less experience and qualifications may be considered at a reduced starting wage.
