Your role within the team:
Leadership and Management
Assist the Engineering Director in leading the engineering team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.
Oversee day‑to‑day engineering operations, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Provide leadership and coaching to management roles and senior professional staff executing commercial and internal work packages and projects.
Be accountable for the performance and results of multiple related teams.
Project Oversight
Manage the design, development, and implementation of SMR projects.
Ensure all engineering activities comply with regulatory standards and safety protocols.
Coordinate with cross‑functional teams, including manufacturing, construction, and operations, to ensure seamless project execution.
Technical Expertise
Provide technical leadership in the design and optimization of SMRs.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in nuclear technology and integrate new innovations into project designs.
Conduct technical reviews and assessments to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure all engineering activities adhere to local, national, and international regulatory requirements.
Liaise with regulatory bodies to obtain necessary approvals and certifications.
Develop and implement quality assurance and control processes.
Stakeholder Engagement
Communicate project progress and technical details to stakeholders, including senior management, clients, and regulatory authorities.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to support project goals.
Resourcing
Forecast resource demands for the assigned work scope, including skills, capabilities, and durations.
Define the structure of the project team for their scope of accountability, including reporting relationships.
Hire and release staff, secondees, and contractors from the team as required.
Negotiate with other Engineering Directors to optimize the use of available staff.
Provide oversight for onboarding of new staff and training.
Ensure qualified and appropriate staff are working on the project and are assigned work within their experience and skills.
Training and Mentorship
Organize and direct the development of project‑specific training courses as necessary.
Mentor and/or organize mentoring of staff to maintain and improve staff performance and capabilities.
Ensure all project training and qualification records are up‑to‑date, and required training and qualifications are completed/updated on time.
Project Objectives and KPI
Help staff set SMART objectives aligned with project demands.
Track, analyze, and develop/execute plans to improve project‑targeted Key Performance Indicators and objectives.
Staff Performance and Review
Drive accountability by providing clear expectations and performance measures, meaningful feedback, recognition and reward, and disciplinary steps when warranted.
Develop and implement corrective measures to improve the performance of individuals.
Provide feedback and effective recommendations into functional hire/fire processes.
Manage project‑related human resource issues and effectively resolve work performance problems as they relate to the project, working with Functional Engineering as appropriate.
Provide day‑to‑day interpretation and application of negotiated agreements with bargaining agents as they affect employee rights, obligations, and working conditions.
Proposals
Participate in the preparation of commercial and internal proposals and approve the technical content of proposals prepared under their direction.
Project Execution
Provide overall technical direction for engineering work per the approved project scope and schedule.
Support the Project Director in execution of day‑to‑day oversight activities.
Be responsible for meeting the QA program requirements and change control process.
Ensure that deliverables from the team meet customer requirements specified in the contract and align with nuclear codes and standards.
Manage the overall project engineering change control process, ensuring the design is defined, controlled, verified, and that all design inputs and interfaces are complete, substantiated, and verified.
Be responsible for technical integration and interface control both within the projects across the various disciplines involved, and with the client.
Provide guidance, technical insights, supervision, and feedback to the Technical Managers that are part of the team.
Be responsible for technical deliverables budget, schedule, and quality.
Review and approve key technical documentation for the project or phase of the project.
Monitor the technical quality of engineering deliverables for the project or phase of the project.
Identify and propose improvements in the areas of the project – both proactively and in response to customer requirements.
Ensure security access requirements, including need‑to‑know, are implemented on the project.
Interface with the Procurement Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Construction Manager, and Site Engineering Manager for all site engineering matters in the project or phase of the project, as applicable.
Liaise with the Project Director and senior executives regarding the technical quality of subcontracted engineering services.
Liaise with external client engineering organization at the request of the Project Director regarding technical matters.
Communicate engineering issues and status to Senior Management.
Ensure technical integration between all project stakeholders.

Ideal Candidate
Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
Minimum of 10 years of experience in nuclear engineering, with a focus on design and project management.
P.Eng registration with PEO or equivalent required.
Highly motivated and results‑oriented, self‑starter with strong engineering and people‑management skills and experience.
Proven leadership experience in managing engineering teams and large‑scale projects.
Experience with supervision, oversight and plant site maintenance resulting in increased efficiencies and the customization of specialised teams to enhance overall performance.
In‑depth knowledge of SMR technology and regulatory requirements.
Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of INPO / WANO fundamentals and practices.
Extensive exposure and experience with human performance tools for utilities to reduce human error rate and subsequent lost generation and equipment damage.
Comprehensive experience with the safety and operational aspects of commercial reactors.
Training experience to develop and execute increased process improvements through the development of programs to address the improvement of work control and efficiency practices.
Highly developed safety background with extensive knowledge of nuclear safety practices and requirements through site‑specific experience and operations focus.
