Job Description We are currently looking to fill
2 positions
for a Power Engineer to join our Power Production team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for all aspects of the safe and cost‑efficient operation of the high‑pressure boiler turbine units and all associated auxiliary equipment.
Responsibilities
As a member of the Operations Team, responsible for the safe & cost‑efficient operation of the high‑pressure boiler turbine units and associated auxiliary equipment.
Work effectively as a member of the Operations Team in a planned work environment.
Participate in competency‑based training, regulatory training, and on‑the‑job training to develop additional skills.
May be temporarily assigned to other locations to assist other areas and will be expected to travel throughout the province.
Responsible for personal safety and that of co‑workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
Responsible for solid environmental performance of the plant and support all ISO 14001 processes and initiatives.
Ensure that NSPI is in compliance with all NERC/NPCC reliability standards related to (area applicable to NERC requirements).
Primary residence must be located within 60 minutes of headquarters and may be required to respond to call‑outs.
Position is considered safety sensitive; successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre‑employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the procedure.
Skills & Qualifications
A 2nd Class Power Engineer Certificate and a minimum of three (3) years experience as a Power Engineer in a generating station or industry with similar processes.
Acceptable colour vision for operation of control monitoring equipment.
Problem‑resolution skills and flexibility to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, strong computer aptitude, and ability to handle multiple tasks and demands.
If no qualified candidates apply, applicants who possess a 3rd Class Power Engineer Certificate will be considered as Power Engineer Apprentices.
As a registered apprentice, responsible for completing all papers and skills required to obtain a 2nd Class Power Engineer Certificate within a specific time frame.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
Lift 10–25 lbs. from the floor to overhead occasionally and carry 50 lbs. with two hands.
Push and pull 95 lbs. with whole body strength and 145 lbs. using upper body strength on a minimal basis; perform tasks using a range of grip strength frequently and perform static reaching from waist level on a frequent basis and from laterally to overhead occasionally.
Perform bending, stooping, kneeling, and forward flexional movements on a minimal basis.
Perform squatting, crouching, neck rotation, neck extension, and finger dexterity occasionally.
Use side neck flexion, stand, and climb ladders and stairs frequently while walking constantly.
Sit constantly, using frequent finger dexterity while using minimal grip strength.
Perform frequent static reaching at waist level and occasional reaching from below the waist to shoulder height.
Perform minimal bending, stopping, and forward flexion.
Use neck extensions and rotations occasionally and side neck flexion frequently to complete tasks throughout the shift.
