Alberta, CanadaJob Family Group:Discipline EngineeringWorker Type:RegularPosting Start Date:May 4, 2026Business Unit:Downstream and RenewablesExperience Level:Early CareersJob Description:What’s the roleShell Canada is seeking an Asset Inspector – Refinery, Chemical & Distribution to join its team at the Scotford Refinery.The Asset Inspector is responsible for ensuring pressure equipment integrity at the Scotford Refinery. This role manages aspects of inspection, materials, welding, quality control, quality assurance, equipment design, procedure review, and the creation or updating of pressure equipment standards and specifications. In addition, the Asset Inspector provides technical support to production and maintenance teams on day-to-day plant issues, as well as during operational and equipment-related problems.The Asset Inspector ensures that all pressure equipment is designed, fabricated, operated, inspected, maintained, altered, and repaired in a manner that preserves pressure equipment integrity and complies with applicable regulations and standards. This role serves as an advocate for pressure equipment safety and strives toward zero leaks. The Asset Inspector proactively improves and executes the site’s Pressure Equipment Integrity Management (PEIM) system and associated work processes.The role primarily focuses on a 90-day outlook, ensuring the PEIM program for assigned units is executed while also supporting medium- to long-term unit issues and improvement opportunities. A portion of the role involves short-term support for emerging unit issues that may pose a risk to the business plan.Accountabilities:Daily activities of reviewing shift logs and shift plan in preparation for daily team meetingsPlan, coordinate, and execute integrity inspections, assessments, recommendations, and monitoring requirements including maintaining unit KPIsResponsible for the implementation of the PEIM program for the assigned process unitMaintenance of the Inspection database system (IMS)Pressure Equipment Integrity (PEI) Focal for Maintenance Team Leaders and Asset Shift Team Leaders within their area to quickly resolve emergent threats to the business planAssessment, analysis, optimization, and documentation of Inspection resultsSupport Shell Risk Based Inspection (RBI) assessmentsResponsible for creation of piping and equipment repair plans and their adherence to API, ASME, and jurisdictional ABSA requirementsTechnical review and support of management of change (MOC) work, equipment inspection deferrals or extensions, and RBI assessmentsTechnical support of equipment re-rating, fitness for service evaluations and remaining life assessmentsReview and approval of construction and repair Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs)Responsible for the placement, monitoring, and RBI assessment of condition monitoring locations (CMLs) on equipment and piping, while optimizing to assure integrity and efficiencyTroubleshoot failures & provide recommendations for repair / replacement based on materials failure analysis, causal analysis, and root-cause analysisPerform maintenance & integrity quality assurance duties on assigned assetsProvide direction, monitor the progression, and review reporting of non-destructive examination (NDE) in their assigned units, ensuring the personnel safety of NDE contractors working in their respective areaInput to annual budget process for integrity/inspection issuesAssist and coach team members in removing and overcoming barriers they find with executing PEI integrity activitiesSupport the PEI work process through all stages of degradation assessments, inspection planning, perform inspection, analyze results, and corrective actionWork collaboratively with our customers and stakeholders in Production, Maintenance, Projects, Turnaround, Engineering and Technology teamsMay be required to fill a reserve worker roleWhat you bringMust have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employerMust have a technical diploma in materials engineering technology or related disciplineAt least 2 years of professional experience at petrochemical or other industrial sitesPossession of at least one of the following certifications is desired: API 510, API 570, API 653, or ABSA In‑Service Pressure Equipment (Boiler) InspectorExperience with Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) techniquesWorking knowledge of pressure equipment design, corrosion mechanisms, codes and standards, inspection techniques, welding, metallurgy, and process safetyWorking knowledge of applicable industry standards for piping, pressure vessels, storage tanks, and/or heat exchangers such as SME Pressure Vessel and Piping Codes, API, ASTM, WRC is preferredKnowledge in the application of Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) is preferredProficient in the MS Office suite of software, including PI and Process BookAbility to interpret ambiguous data and clearly articulate its meaningWillingness and ability to provide off-hours and overtime support as needed for urgent plant issuesIf you don’t see yourself fully reflected in every job requirement listed in the posting above, we still encourage you to reach out and apply.
