What You'll Do: As the Manager of HSE Assurance (Americas), you will lead the strategic development, oversight, and continual improvement of the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Management System across the Americas region. Operating at the Company level, you will ensure our organization meets all legal and regulatory obligations while aligning with global Company HSE standards, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001. You will serve as the authority on HSE assurance, supporting internal and external audits, legal register management, Company HSE performance reporting, and oversight of key HSE management system elements across the Americas portfolio. As part of this role, you will also be required to travel across Northland's Americas portfolio to conduct HSSE audits and verifications, ensuring and validating compliance with applicable legal requirements and Company HSSE standards. This position is based in Toronto, where you will also support or coordinate compliance with any HSE and applicable to the head office location.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the design and continual improvement of the Company Global HSE Management System, in alignment with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and other relevant standards.
Ensure consistent integration of HSE governance processes across the Americas portfolio, supporting cross-functional harmonization with quality, ESG, and operational risk frameworks.
Maintain oversight of the Company HSE legal register, monitoring regulatory and standards updates and translating impacts into system-level or procedural changes.
Coordinate or fulfill statutory HSE responsibilities for the Toronto head office in line with Canadian federal and provincial legislation (e.g. OHSA).
Lead corporate-level HSE assurance activities, including internal audits, management system compliance reviews, and ISO readiness assessments across the Americas portfolio.
Track and report on HSE audit findings, non-conformities, and corrective action status at the Company level, ensuring consistency and transparency.
Coordinate Company-level HSE reporting, including inputs for ESG disclosures, board reports, and external benchmarking (e.g. GRI).
Provide governance oversight and support for HSE incident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented and verified.
Facilitate sharing of lessons learned through structured communications.
Support rollout and assurance of company HSE programs, campaigns, and initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 10 years of experience in HSE including 3+ years in governance/assurance or corporate HSSE Management Systems roles.
Proven experience managing or implementing ISO-certified Management Systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001); experience with integrated systems is an asset.
Strong understanding of Canadian HSE legislation; experience across other jurisdictions in the Americas is a significant asset.
Skilled communicator who can translate regulatory and technical requirements into practical, actionable strategies for a multinational organization.
Experience working in a matrixed environment with cross-functional teams (e.g., operations, legal, ESG, quality).
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and governance/reporting tools.
Valid driver’s license.
Willingness to travel across the Americas to conduct HSSE audits and verifications (frequency varies by portfolio needs).

Pay Range: $88,800.00 – $111,000.00
