Sherweb is creating a dedicated architecture role focused full-time on technological exploration, experimentation, and forward-looking innovation.

This role is not about delivering production systems or supporting day-to-day product teams. Instead, it exists to explore what’s next: emerging architectures, novel platforms, modern AI agents, new programming paradigms, and to turn that exploration into tangible proof of concepts that can later be industrialized by Sherweb’s architecture and engineering teams.

You will operate with significant autonomy, curiosity, and ownership. Your success will be measured by how effectively you identify high-potential technologies, deeply internalize them through hands-on experimentation, and help Sherweb make informed decisions about future directions.

Here's what your day-to-day will look like in this role.

Reporting directly to the Vice President, Platform & Engineering, you will:

• Act as Sherweb’s dedicated technological scout, continuously evaluating emerging software technologies, platforms, and architectural patterns; both inside and outside Sherweb’s current ecosystem
• Build proofs of concept (PoCs) and experimental prototypes to validate ideas, de-risk new approaches, and explore innovative concepts without immediate production constraints
• Explore new domains even when there is no immediate product plan, purely to understand the underlying concepts and assess long-term relevance (e.g., experimenting with projects like OpenClaw even if they may never be adopted internally)
• Serve as a bridge between exploration and execution: once a technology shows potential, collaborate with and involve other Sherweb architects to help bring the idea to life within Sherweb’s context
• Perform continuous technological watch on modern software architecture, cloud platforms, AI agents, orchestration systems, MCP servers, developer tooling, and emerging programming models
• Experiment hands-on with new technologies by:
• Writing exploratory code
• Building isolated prototypes
• Creating proof-of-concept architectures
• Design and document experimental solution architectures to clearly explain:
• What problem the technology solves
• How it works
• Where it could (or could not) fit within Sherweb’s ecosystem
• Perform early feasibility studies, favoring fast iteration, rapid learning, and “fail fast” approaches when appropriate
• Prepare lightweight technical briefings and architecture notes to share findings with Sherweb architects and leadership
• Work largely independently while maintaining strong alignment with the VP, Platform & Engineering
• When appropriate, collaborate with other architects to transition validated ideas toward broader adoption or productization

Here's what you need to have and master to get the job.

• University degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
• 10+ years of hands-on technical experience in software development and/or solution architecture
• Strong experience designing and experimenting with modern software architectures, including cloud-native and distributed systems
• Demonstrated experience evaluating, testing, and experimenting with emerging technologies, not just consuming mature ones
• Excellent coding ability and comfort building prototypes alone from scratch
• Proficiency in both spoken and written English; French proficiency is considered an asset

• Strong intellectual curiosity and the discipline to go deep; not just surface-level exploration
• Comfort working mostly alone, with occasional collaboration at key inflection points
• Ability to clearly explain complex concepts and experimental findings to other architects and technical leaders

What this role is not

• Not a delivery-focused solution architect embedded in product teams
• Not primarily responsible for production systems
• Not driven by predefined roadmaps
• Not limited to Sherweb’s current technology stack or domains

However, we recognize that each candidate brings a unique set of skills and experiences. As such, the final compensation package will be tailored to reflect the specific qualifications and expertise of the chosen candidate, ensuring that we remain competitive and equitable in our offerings.

Reasons for the requirement of English: Sherweb has international customers and fluency in English is the only way to ensure proper service delivery to them. The main tasks related to this position require written and oral communication with an English-speaking clientele at all times.
