Job description

POSITION TYPE TERM (12 Months), FULL-TIME (Mon – Fri, with flexibility to work weekends)

Position Summary

The Ikwewag Wiigiwaam Owiiji'in Indinawemaaganag (IWOI) – Women’s Lodge, Helping All People – Level 1 Team Member will engage and connect with Indigenous individuals, specifically women who require support, and provide referrals as needed. Safety concerns related to intimate partner violence, exploitation, and overall wellbeing are central to this role.

This position serves as a key point of contact for individuals seeking access to social services and community resources, functioning as a one-stop support resource. The role emphasizes building trust through culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches. The IWOI Level 1 Team Member will maintain a strong community presence, providing direct engagement, assessing needs, triaging situations, and supporting individuals through ongoing case management and service navigation. Cultural, spiritual, and holistic supports are prioritized in all interactions.

As part of the DCSP framework, this role is supported by and collaborates with internal teams including MAC 24/7 (Mobile Assist and Connect), CONNECT, COAR (Community Outreach, Advocacy and Resource), and CAN (Coordinated Assistance Network).

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify individuals who are vulnerable or at risk of crisis and determine appropriate supports, including referrals to MAC 24/7 or COAR where required
  • Develop and maintain professional, respectful, and supportive relationships using a trauma-informed lens
  • Provide short-term support and connect participants to relevant social service agencies
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with community partners
  • Assist in developing individualized service plans in collaboration with participants
  • Advocate for participants’ needs and support their access to services
  • Identify and address barriers that may limit participants’ ability to access supports

Qualifications

  • Related work, lived, or volunteer experience is considered an asset
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working with vulnerable populations preferred
  • Ability to perform physical duties, including extended periods of walking or standing
  • Experience in the non-profit sector is an asset
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and strengths-based approaches
  • Certifications such as First Aid, MHFA, and ASIST are assets
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license preferred
  • Must complete a Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) and Adult & Child Abuse Registry Check prior to employment
