Duration: 12 Months (Extension possible)
Work Hours: 40 hours/week (Monday–Friday)
Role Overview
The Government of Alberta is seeking a highly experienced Senior Business Consultant to provide expertise in privacy, security, and information management within healthcare and eHealth initiatives.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with Alberta’s health information legislation, supporting privacy and security processes, and enabling the successful implementation of digital health technologies and transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct and facilitate impact and risk assessments across multiple projects and initiatives
  • Provide privacy and security advisory support for eHealth and health program implementations
  • Lead and support development of Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA), Security Threat Risk Assessments (STRA), and Business Impact Assessments (BIA)
  • Ensure compliance with Health Information Act (HIA) and other privacy regulations
  • Develop and maintain privacy, security, and information management documentation
  • Collaborate with business and technical teams to align solutions with policy and governance frameworks
  • Support implementation of Responsible AI practices, including risk identification and mitigation
  • Develop training materials and training plans related to privacy and security
  • Deliver training sessions and knowledge transfer to internal teams
  • Coordinate across multiple initiatives to ensure consistent privacy and security practices
  • Provide ongoing monitoring, reporting, and status updates to leadership and stakeholders
  • Support development of policies, standards, and best practices related to information management
Must-Have Requirements
Work Experience:
  • 10+ years experience conducting and facilitating impact and risk assessments
  • 5+ years experience in business writing, communication, and documentation
  • 1+ year experience working with AI technologies (Machine Learning, NLP, etc.)
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • 10+ years experience with Alberta Health Information Act (HIA) and related legislation
  • Experience developing PIA, STRA, and BIA artifacts
  • Experience coordinating privacy, security, and compliance activities within IT projects
  • 5+ years experience in change management
  • Experience developing training materials and training plans
  • Strong knowledge of ATIA / FOIP / POPA regulations
  • Experience developing information management policies, standards, and practices
  • Hands-on experience with data security controls, anonymization, and audits
  • Experience applying Responsible AI principles (fairness, bias detection, explainability)
