Job Summary

Come work as a Leader, Manager Resource Network with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Join VCH’s innovative Transformation Team of experienced advisors, leaders, and directors from clinical and corporate backgrounds that champion and lead health‑care system‑wide transformation initiatives that cross VCH. The Transformation team acts as a central hub for internal teams and external partners, supporting strategy, innovation, planetary health, and culture initiatives, as well as leading urgent or special projects requested by the CEO, Senior Executive Team, Board, or Ministry of Health.

As a Leader of the Caring for Managers program, this role contributes to a well‑established, peer mentorship model as imagined by managers and delivered by the diverse manager team since the program’s inception. You will bring your lived leadership experience as a clinical manager—to support managers in their day‑to‑day challenges. This role spans strategic thinking, relationship building, and organizational change enablement. You’ll identify collaboration opportunities, anticipate risks, and serve as a trusted mentor who models diplomacy, kindness, empathy, creativity, problem‑solving, and exceptional facilitation and communication skills. This position offers the chance to directly support managers while gaining a VCH‑wide, strategic vista—helping shape the future of the VCH manager experience and the environment in which leaders thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for providing expert leadership, consultation, advice, and support to clinical and non‑clinical managers across VCH programs.
  • Source their own strengths and leadership experiences to develop and facilitate an organization‑wide manager knowledge translation network.
  • Contact managers directly to build relationships with and provide consultative mentorship to managers across Vancouver Coastal Health, acknowledging that managers are autonomous, collaborative practitioners, while supporting leadership excellence through education, facilitation, and coaching to enable service optimization across the organization.
  • Creates a supportive infrastructure that facilitates opportunities for mentorship, continuous feedback, collegial relationships with physicians and other medical staff, and deepens the collaborative practice within the interprofessional teams.
  • Assess which specific and consistent systemic gaps exist to strategically inform a long‑term, organizational manager retention plan.
  • Perform occasional relief manager duties to remain active in their management practice to mentor/inspire/guide other managers who have key accountabilities for quality assurance, team functionality, and patient safety.

This work is framed within VCH’s commitments to our pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti‑Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Masters’ Degree in a relevant health care profession supplemented with leadership and business management courses plus ten (10) years’ recent, related and progressive leadership experience in a medium to large health care organization, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience as a VCH Clinical Manager is an asset.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrated understanding of issues faced by members of equity‑deserving groups, including intersectional effects of inequality.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate programs and planned changes.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various groups and agencies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contracts, government policies, regulations and funding mechanisms relevant to acute, community, and primary health care.
  • Demonstrated experience as an organizational change agent in establishing and operationalizing principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others in a complex unionized environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including presenting to key partner groups and the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of multi‑level partners in a diverse community.
  • Demonstrated understanding of conflict resolution, team building and change‑management principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and build consensus at a system level and within interprofessional areas across the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities that promote improved service delivery and project/program implementation, management and evaluation.
  • Proficiency in the use of related technology and software applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Travel within the health authority as needed or required (drive and/or fly as needed).

EEO Statement

We encourage applications from equity‑deserving communities, including Indigenous Peoples and members of racialized groups, people with disabilities and people of all gender identities and expressions and sexual orientation.

Only short‑listed applicants will be contacted for this posting.
