The Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) is a collaborative program funded and operated jointly by Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph's Hospital. The Program is committed to change and innovation, through education, service and research, to bring the highest quality science into healthcare for the benefit of the community and to participate in the clinical application and interpretation of the science.
Position Summary
The Technical Specialist, Clinical Chemistry and Immunology, is responsible for research and development of new and improved technologies in all sub-disciplines within the department including Biochemical Genetics and Red Cell Disorders to improve laboratory services to the clinical programs. Works collaboratively with the Clinical Chemistry and Immunology manager as well as the discipline director and senior technologists to provide continuous advancement in clinical testing. Incorporates new and improved methodologies into routine testing. Optimizes the provision of service by utilizing the available resources in an effective and efficient manner. Liaises with various users of the service and with technologists regarding results and methodologies. Provide oversight and take the lead role for accreditation, EQA and Quality Control. Take the lead in the validation, and implementation of new instrumentation. Provides education to staff for new methodologies. Participates in short and long term planning, setting goals and objectives, which will contribute to the program plans for meeting the needs of the clinical programs. Maintains a high level of technical expertise, professional growth and development through literature reviews, professional associations and attending seminars and workshops. Participates in production of scientific papers in support of research and education for publication and/or presentation at scientific meetings. Develops and maintains a personal education program that supports continuous improvement in the role of the Technical specialist – Clinical Chemistry and Immunology.

Qualifications
1. Registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario
2. Advanced Registered Technologist, Bachelors of Science or Bachelor of Technology degree preferred
3. Degree/certificate from a recognized Health Management Program and/or Quality Management Program preferred
4. Minimum 5 years of experience in clinical chemistry and immunology
5. Demonstrated excellence in technical, developmental, research, problem-solving, regulatory requirements and project management skills
8. Demonstrated knowledge of the quality management system, new test validation and implementation processes
9. Demonstrated leadership abilities, excellence in communication skills (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, team building and the ability to initiate and model positive change
10. Demonstrated commitment to professional development
