About the team:
The Technology Planning and Cooperation Department promotes strategic innovation across all of Huawei Canada. Working with fellow experts, the focus is researching new and upcoming areas of technology as well as strategic planning to help achieve long term vision of Huawei. This department offers a unique opportunity to leverage both technical and business skills.
About the Job:
Develop experimental prototypes and research ideas around AI-native graphics pipelines and heterogeneous computing architectures, particularly through GPU + NPU collaborative acceleration.
Work on forward-looking systems that integrate AI inference directly into graphics, simulation, and interactive computing workflows, enabling new levels of performance and capability for next-generation intelligent devices.
Investigate how neural methods can augment or replace traditional rendering pipelines.
Design heterogeneous computing models that enable tight cooperation between GPU and NPU processors.
Explore architectures that enable powerful AI models to run efficiently on intelligent devices. Example topics include:
o Efficient inference pipelines for multimodal models.
o LLM or AI agent capabilities on edge devices, heterogeneous acceleration for large models on mobile platforms.
The total target annual compensation (based on 2,080 hours per year) ranges from $93,600 to $104,000 depending on education, experience, and demonstrated expertise.
About the ideal candidate:
Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields.
Relevant research areas include computer graphics, machine learning systems, computer architecture, heterogeneous computing, mobile systems, high-performance computing.
Strong experience in one or more of the following areas:
o GPU programming (CUDA, Vulkan, Metal, OpenGL, DirectX)
o Graphics rendering pipelines or game engines
o Deep learning and neural networks
o Heterogeneous computing architectures
o System performance optimization
Strong programming skills in C / C++, Python, Rust.
Ability to turn research ideas into working systems or prototypes.
Experience of building high-performance systems or experimental prototypes is an asset.
