About the Role
The employment specialist provides job training and support services to a caseload of adults with developmental disabilities. The incumbent also conducts workshops, employment counselling, participates in assessment procedures, assists the placement coordinator in acquiring practicum placements and employment opportunities and liaises with employers regarding training needs and job development.
Responsibilities:
providing community-based job training, follow-up and support services
providing employment counselling/crisis management to students as required
resolving employment related problems that impact job training, employment success and daily living
administering a wide variety of assessment tools, utilizing analytical skills and writing assessment reports
facilitating small group tutorials and workshops
supporting placement coordinator with job development
assisting students in job search activities and job retention
documenting student progress
Qualifications:
Rehabilitation or Education Diploma/Degree or equivalent.
Minimum 6 months related experience working with adults with developmental disabilities, ideally in vocational areas
Expertise in on-the-job training techniques
Strong organizational/time management skills to effectively manage a caseload
Crisis management/counselling expertise
Outstanding public relation skills to work effectively with students, employers, and supports
Knowledge of labour market
Professionalism
Team player, able to work autonomously
Job placement skills an asset
Flexibility to work occasional evening or weekend.
Must have valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle as condition of employment
A criminal record check and vulnerable sector verification will be required within one month of being hired
