What is the Opportunity?
As the Data Steward, you will be a key member of the BPMO – Enterprise Analytics and Data Governance (EADG) team, partnering with IS, business units, and data product owners to ensure our enterprise data is trusted, high-quality, well-documented, and discoverable.
You will steward enterprise metadata, manage business definitions, maintain data lineage, and support the establishment of a consistent and governed data landscape. Leveraging enterprise tools, you will help modernize our data governance capabilities and strengthen enterprise data literacy.
What You’ll Do Here:
- Establish and provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) knowledge on enterprise data models, data standards, definitions, and governance best practices.
- Own and maintain the Business Glossary and Data Dictionary, ensuring consistent terminology and clear data definitions across the enterprise.
- Work with Information Services (IS) to maintain visibility into the current data inventory and data landscape.
- Collaborate with data owners and Information Security to define, co-own, and enforce data classification policies (e.g., sensitivity, confidentiality, business value).
- Partner with business units to define and operationalize data standards for critical data elements (CDEs).
- Monitor, validate, and steward metadata to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with enterprise data policies.
- Support data discovery efforts by partnering with SMEs to locate analytical data in source systems and validate its contextual meaning.
- Provide profiling information and data lineage to help users understand data quality, fitness for use, and business context.
- Document, track, and resolve data issues raised by end users to maintain data relevancy and trust.
- Ensure data assets are properly categorized and enriched with metadata for improved discoverability.
- Continuously refine cataloging and metadata processes for usability, scalability, and alignment with evolving data architecture.
- Advocate for standardized intake and prioritization processes for metadata, quality fixes, and glossary updates.
- Work closely with Data Analysts, Data Engineers, and business SMEs to support governed data access and improved data literacy.
What You Bring to the Team:
- An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Business Technology Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Certifications in Data Governance/Data Management (e.g., DAMA, CDMP, DCAM) are not required, but they are considered an asset.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, or Data Analysis.
- Experience with master data management, data cataloging, metadata management, and enterprise data quality.
- Experience with IBM Match 360, IBM Watsonx Data Intelligence, or similar governance/MDM platforms (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica) is a strong asset.
- Experience with SQL and data modeling tools is a plus.
- Knowledge of SAP or construction-related business systems, especially Oracle/Primavera P6, is an asset.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to organize and make sense of complex data landscapes.
- Excellent communication skills—able to explain complex data concepts in clear, non-technical terms.
- Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams and manage multiple assignments with minimal supervision.
- Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to apply governance principles pragmatically while supporting business needs.
Reason for Vacancy: Replacement
The expected pay range for this role is: $85,000 - $90,000 per year
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
