Regenerative Farming & Off-grid living
Unique Regenerative Farm Opportunity on Haida Gwaii
Maude Island Farm on Haida Gwaii is looking for volunteer helpers for 2-4 week stints from May1 - Sept 30, 2026.
Who We Are
We are an organic vegetable farm using regenerative practices on Haida Gwaii.
We have been growing local food for 32 years, selling produce at the Daajing Giids Farmer’s Market, local restaurants and stores, and doing weekly CSA deliveries. Maude Island Farm is located on remote Maude Island with a population of 3 (that’s us). The farm is boat access only so the remoteness is exacerbated by the limited travel options. We go to town weekly for the Saturday Farmers Market.
The farm is off-grid which means that many urban conveniences such as daily hot showers, dependable internet and doing laundry can be a bit challenging.
Laird and Lynda (farmers) are typical aging farmers 65 and 69, but we still have energy and passion for the farm and growing local food. We also see the importance of teaching the next generation the skills of food production.
What We Offer
We offer accommodation at the farm and shared meals. There is a rustic cabin or a room in the large farmhouse.
The helpers will work closely with the farmer in all aspects of farming from starting plants to planting crops, weeding, fertilization, compost building, harvesting, prepping veggies for market, selling at the Farmers market etc. Also greenhouse management will taught. Many non-related garden tasks come with farm-life like chopping firewood and preserving veggies or salmon in season.
We are located on the south shore of a beautiful island and have kayaks and a rowboat for those who love to be on the water. The swimming is great if you like cold water, so don’t worry, we do have some leisure time and encourage people to explore and enjoy this little piece of paradise.
Requirements
We are seeking strong, enthusiastic volunteers who enjoy working as a member of the team. A keen interest in growing food is important. Must be willing to rough-it off grid.
