Our client, The Southern Chiefs’ Organization Inc ( SCO ), is seeking an experienced Human Resources Director to support Southern Chiefs’ Organization and the Southern First Nations Network of Care.

Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Human Resources Director will be responsible for assessing and developing HR strategies, overseeing HR services, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations while upholding a healthy workplace culture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES :

  • Continue to further develop corporate plans for a variety of HR matters such as compensation, benefits, health and safety etc.
  • Assess Human Resource policies and processes, performance management and employee relations management and provide guidance to employees and management.
  • Oversee Human Resource compliance and risk management.
  • Oversee pension and benefits administration.
  • Coach and advise managers on HR policy, best practices, employment standards and labour laws to help guide decision making.
  • Collaborate with managers on employee performance.
  • Supervise the work of HR personnel and provide guidance as required.
  • Monthly and annual reports.
  • Work collaboratively with the senior management team to develop, implement and monitor human resource strategies to build on positive corporate culture.
  • Provide advice to directors, program leads, and managers on performance evaluations, learning plans, career development plans, resolution of interpersonal issues, and oversee coaching.
  • Undertake initiatives to promote and measure employee engagement and retention through coordination of employee surveys, employee recognition, etc.
  • Build strategic relationships throughout the organization.

Skills & Qualifications :

  • Completion of post-secondary education in Human Resource Management and / or certified Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is required.
  • 8-10 years of experience in Human Resources administration including developing human resource functions and processes and managing staff.
  • Proven experience across all areas of human resources with a strong focus on talent strategy including recruitment, retention, training / development, and performance management.
  • Expert knowledge of Employment Standards, Labour Relations, Workplace Safety and Health, Human Rights Legislation including Child and Family Services Sector.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Experience working with First Nation communities and fluency in the Anishinaabe or Dakota language is an asset.
