KCB is seeking our first in-house Legal Counsel, based in our Vancouver Corporate office. This position is part of our Corporate Group , reporting to the VP Technical (responsible for risk mitigation).

Applying diversity, equity and inclusion best practices, the role of Legal Counsel comes with the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule and will provide you with the opportunity to :

  • review, interpret, and negotiate a wide range of global external contracts, including client agreements, vendor contracts, and subcontractor agreements, ensuring consistency across our global operations
  • review and maintain KCB generated client and subcontractor agreements, ensuring best practices are applied
  • legal guidance and support in the resolution of insurance claims and disputes, ensuring compliance with the laws and regulations in the local region
  • research and analysis to stay abreast of changes and best practices in relevant laws and regulations within the countries we operate, focusing on the engineering consulting industry
  • with internal teams, including project managers and senior leadership, to assess legal risks and develop mitigation strategies
  • timely legal advice to project teams throughout the project lifecycle
  • RFPs and assist in developing project risk profiles, supporting go-no-go evaluations
  • with our external lawyer, in each of our regions, as a key contact
  • training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal issues, risk management, contract negotiation strategies, and best practices
  • our internal risk assessment committee on evaluating legal issues and risks
  • applicable portfolios within our Integrated Management System (IMS)
  • other tasks deemed necessary to support the legal affairs and risk mitigation for KCB

What we require :

We respect the knowledge and experience you have gained to date and are willing to help you build on it. We do however require the following qualifications :

  • degree in law (JD or LLB) from an accredited law school
  • to practice law in a Canadian province
  • years of experience practicing law, with at least 5 years of focus on external contracts
  • in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements for the regions we operate in (North America; Europe; Australia; Latin America)
  • have experience working with contracts and risk management techniques within the engineering consulting industry
  • to applicable legislation in other regions which we operate is considered an asset (UK, Ireland, Australia, Peru, Brazil, Ecuador, EU, and USA)

In addition to the must have requirements you will excel in the role if you have the following :

  • ability to find creative solutions and know how to present them
  • ability to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and industry partners
  • that you are flexible and seek solutions

The salary for this position is $145,000 to $190,000 per year. Salary is based on applicable experience, education, and skill level.
