Position Details
The AI Coordinator plays a central role in advancing the university’s capacity to leverage Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) across teaching, research, and administration. This position is responsible for facilitating a connected and coordinated approach to AI exploration and adoption across campus. Through collaboration and convening, the AI Coordinator ensures that AI-related initiatives are aligned, that successful practices and lessons learned are shared, and that duplication of effort is minimized.
The role will build shared understanding, produce practical resources, and foster a campus culture of informed experimentation and ethical application of GenAI. This role will report to the Director of Infrastructure and will work closely with the Associate VP, Information Technology and all three IT Services Directors. The AI Coordinator also works with academic and administrative units, faculty, staff, students, and senior leadership to support responsible and innovative AI use, ensuring the university remains at the forefront of thoughtful digital transformation. This position will serve as a central point of contact for GenAI-related activities across the university, helping to build awareness of who is doing what and where. This role is around coordination rather than a strictly hands on technical role.

The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification and compensation review for Administrative Professional Officer (APO) positions. As such, the salary range currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project. Position Qualifications
Education: University degree in a relevant field (e.g. education, data science, computer science, digital humanities, public policy).
Years of Experience: 4 years of experience in a coordination, facilitation, digital innovation or educational development role. Preferred would be in relavent experience in a post-secondary setting, including understanding of higher education culture and norms.
Job-Specific Knowledge and Technical Skills: - Experience and expertise with GenAI tools. (Functional knowledge is much more important than technical expertise.)
- Project Management and Business Analysis experience and expertise.
- Excellent facilitation, coordination, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to bring diverse stakeholders together and promote effective engagement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Preferred – Understanding of ethical, pedagogical, and institutional consideration in AI adoption.
Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $65,153.16 - $81,963.08 annually Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $65,153.16 - $98,772.99 annually (APO - Grade 3)
