The Opportunity!

This position is a temporary maternity leave coverage role. While we'd love to explore future opportunities as they arise, this role is tied to the duration of the leave period. The Junior Underwriter, under the direction of the Director of Underwriting, is responsible for reviewing builder applications and renewals for suitability within the warranty program. This role evaluates technical capability, financial capacity, and character of builders, and supports underwriting operations including Letters of Credit and aged commencements. The role works closely with internal teams through in-person, phone, and chat communication.

Day in the life-

• Review builder financial information (financial statements, net worth, credit checks, lender references).

• Review technical information and application documents for program suitability.

• Research applicants using external sources (Internet, BC Online, Business Prospects).

• Evaluate builder applications and renewals for program acceptance.

• Refer and discuss higher-risk files with the Director of Underwriting.

• Ensure appropriate rates and security are set.

• Ensure compliance with membership agreements and provincial statutes.

• Liaise with internal departments and maintain professional relationships.

• Maintain professional conduct and appearance at all times.

What you will bring to our team-

• High school diploma (College or University degree in Business preferred)

• Level 1 insurance licensing preferred

• Minimum 1 year of customer service experience

• Strong numerical and financial aptitude

• Knowledge of insurance practices and regulations (asset)

• Ability to prioritize, manage deadlines, and work independently or in a team

• High integrity and strong work ethic

Salary Expectations -

The expected salary range for this position is $45,000.00 to $50,000.00 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope, and level.
