Job Summary

Job Title: Medical Coordinator Acute Home Based Treatment (AHBT)

Work Site: Woodwards Building - 111 West Hastings Street

Status: Full-Time

Start Date: To be mutually agreed upon

Compensation Type: Mixed: Fee-for-Service/MSP billing

The Medical Coordinator Acute Home Based Treatment (AHBT) works closely with the program medical director and operations manager to provide medical leadership for an emerging citywide program that supports clients with acute mental health needs who can be safely managed at home or housing sites with intensive outreach and active medical management. The role involves fostering a collaborative inter‑professional environment to enhance client‑centered service, acting as a liaison between community health and acute hospital services, ensuring smooth transition from acute care to community services, and engaging with key stakeholders to achieve excellence in client and family care. Responsibilities also include recruitment, retention, and performance management of medical staff, facilitation of clinical learner involvement, support for research when feasible, and committing to at least three half‑days of clinical psychiatry work per week.

Qualifications

Education, Licensing & Experience:

  • Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) – Provisional
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association membership (CMPA) – Mandatory
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) – Eligible
  • Clinical faculty appointment with University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine – highly recommended

Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Experience in a community mental health setting, preferably working with marginalized populations
  • Ability to deliver culturally safe and responsive care for Indigenous patients
  • Experience diagnosing and treating severe mental illness, addiction, concurrent disorders, and personality disorders
  • Commitment to involve families in the circle of care whenever possible
  • Completion of or willingness to complete the BCCSU Provincial Opioid Addiction Treatment Support Program course
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multi‑professional health care team
  • Experience supervising medical students and/or residents
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
  • At least one year of experience working with the Mental Health Substance Use (MHSU) population
