Emergency Physician - Eagle Ridge Hospital - Royal Columbian Hospital

Job Summary

Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) and Eagle Ridge Hospital (ERH) are seeking full‑time Emergency Physicians to join our physician group (Columbia Emergency Physicians Association).

The successful applicants must have CCFP (EM) or FRCPC (EM) certification and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. PALS or APLS certification within five years is also required for work within the region. ABEM certification is also eligible. Previous experience in a high‑volume, high‑acuity Emergency Department is preferable, as is work experience with trauma and pediatric populations. ATLS or other trauma‑based certification (e.g. STRUC) is highly recommended.

Priority will be given to those applicants with experience and/or interest in research, quality improvement, physician leadership, education, simulation, and geriatric emergency medicine. We are looking to hire applicants who will contribute to increasing the diversity of our sites, and EDI (equity, diversity, and inclusivity) principles guide hiring practices for our departments. Compensation for a full‑time Emergency Physician (~13 shifts per month) is approximately $400,000 + per year. Locum/temporary work opportunities are also available.

Our collegial, cohesive group of emergency physicians now numbers approximately 70 and is one of the largest in the country. Scheduling is flexible and accommodates many different physician preferences for shift distribution, and our group has established maternity/paternity leave policies, vacation and senior‑member plans, along with an option for sabbaticals for interested physicians. Clinical practice between RCH and ERH is highly enjoyable given the variety provided by the two different sites and the diverse populations that present from throughout the Fraser Health region to both sites.

Facilities

Royal Columbian Hospital is a tertiary provincial referral hospital located in New Westminster, BC. It offers medical and surgical services, advanced diagnostics & imaging, interventional radiology, critical care, inpatient pediatrics, levels 1 & 3 obstetrics, neonatology/NICU, cardiac surgery, neurosciences, and other tertiary programs as well as 24/7 emergency services with approximately 80,000 visits annually. It is the only level‑1 accredited trauma center in Fraser Health and hosts the only cardiac catheterization/STEMI program within the region, making its Emergency Department one of the highest‑acuity departments in Western Canada. The hospital is undergoing a multi‑phase redevelopment; in February the acute tower will open to patients and will include a new state‑of‑the‑art Emergency Department with 75 beds, a 4‑bay resuscitation area, a satellite medical imaging area, and a dedicated ED procedure room.

Eagle Ridge Hospital is a community hospital located in Port Moody, BC. Its Emergency Department has undergone an extensive renovation and expansion and offers medical, surgical, rehabilitation, cardiac and diabetes outpatient programs with 24/7 emergency services and over 50,000 visits annually. It has robust hospitalist and internal medicine services that contribute to a collegial atmosphere and sees a large variety of ED presentations, including approximately 15% pediatric visits.

Compensation

Full‑time Emergency Physician (~13 shifts per month) is approximately $400,000 + per year. Alternative Payment Plan and locum/temporary opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• CCFP (EM) or FRCPC (EM) certification
• Eligible for full licence with CPSBC
• ABEM certification (eligible)
• PALS or APLS certification within five years
• ATLS certification (highly recommended)
• Clinical experience in high‑volume, high‑acuity Emergency Department
• Experience with trauma and pediatric populations preferred
