Salary range: CAD $42.27/Hr. - CAD $52.81/Hr.

Job Summary

Come work as an Audiologist at Vancouver General Hospital! Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is looking for an Audiologist to join the team at Vancouver General Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Perform vestibular assessment, interpretation, education and management for clients with hearing and balance disorders.
  • Receive referrals, perform diagnostic assessments including testing and interpretation of test results, assemble the results and report findings for referring physicians.
  • Monitor client progress, develop education materials to meet client needs, educate clients, and provide information to team members and relevant community agencies regarding the continuum of service.
  • Consult, report, advocate, and liaise with community agencies.
  • Consult with referring physicians and the audiology supervisor regarding intervention options for individual clients as required.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current full registration as an Audiologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
  • Two (2) years’ experience in vestibular assessment, testing, and management plus one year experience performing audiology services or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current and maintained Advanced Competency Certificate A in Vestibular Assessment and Management with the CSHBC.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and interpret Audiology assessments.
  • Knowledge of audiology theory and practice within a client and family centered model of care.
  • Knowledge of the CSHBC standards of practice and practice guidelines for clinical practitioners.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vestibular system assessment and dysfunction, diagnostic tests and rehabilitation treatment/management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of audiology assessment (including complex cases) as it relates to vestibular assessment and management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of equipment and material used in the assessment and treatment of hearing disorders.
  • Broad knowledge of other health disciplines and their role in healthcare.
  • Broad knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather relevant data and make a multi-dimensional assessment.
  • Broad knowledge of research processes and methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem‑solve, set priorities and deal with conflict.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other healthcare professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine and deal effectively with urgent situations, clients/families/residents.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths‑based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work, including days off and work area, may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly‑funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
