Are you passionate about creating safe, supportive, and thriving workplaces? Otter Co-op is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to join our People & Culture team. This role plays a key part in maintaining and enhancing our well-established health and safety programs across multiple sites in the Greater Vancouver, Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, and Interior regions of BC.

Reporting to the Vice President of People & Culture, the Health & Safety Coordinator provides guidance, coordination, and expertise to ensure a consistent and proactive approach to workplace health, safety, and wellness. The ideal candidate is a trusted partner who builds strong relationships, communicates effectively, and represents the Otter Co-op brand with positivity and professionalism.

Who we are:
Otter Co-op is a diverse and growing organization, serving the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and BC Interior since 1922. With over 103 years in business and over 600 in our team, we are proud to be a locally owned and community minded member of the neighbourhoods we live, work and play in. We operate three food and pharmacy stores (including one with a fashion and hardware department), thirty Angry Otter liquor stores, one feed mill, two bulk petroleum facilities, the Highwayman Pub in Abbotsford, and multiple gas station/convenience stores. To learn more about who we are and how you can help bring our brand to life, visit us at .

What you'll do:

  • Support and enhance existing health and safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with the Wellness Coordinator on WCB claims administration and the development and support of return-to-work (RTW) programs.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, investigations, and audits, and support COR initiatives and corrective action planning.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to leaders and team members to identify and mitigate workplace hazards and risks.
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training, orientations, and certifications (e.g., WHMIS, TDG, First Aid).
  • Lead and facilitate two Joint Health & Safety Committees and ensure effective follow-up and communication.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes (Federal and Provincial) and recommend updates to policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and analyze reports, identify trends, and make data-informed recommendations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in a positive, professional, and supportive manner.
Why it matters:
At Otter Co-op, we’re more than a workplace — we’re a community. We believe in working together to support our team members, members, and guests. You’ll be part of a team that values safety, inclusion, and continuous improvement, and that’s committed to helping every team member go home safe, every day.

Who you are:
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in a multi-site or retail environment.
  • Knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and occupational health and safety best practices.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a trusted partner and represent the brand with care and integrity.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with safety management systems.
  • Class 5 driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract required.
  • Ability to travel regularly to Otter Co-op sites across the Greater Vancouver, Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, and Interior regions of BC (company vehicle provided).

Otter Co-op is committed to a diverse and supportive working environment based on our Core Company Values of Integrity, Community and Excellence. We embrace diversity and inclusion, and we’re working to create a workplace that is as diverse as the communities we serve. We support and provide an environment that allows all to bring their whole selves to work.

All successful candidates will be required to undergo a background check.

We thank all candidates for their interest; however, only those selected to continue in the recruitment process will be contacted.
