Overall Accountability
The Manager, Systems Applications is a critical leadership position responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of Calgary Catholic’s enterprise applications. In this role, you will take a lead position in developing and implementing the district’s plan for technology and education, overseeing the strategic planning, development, and maintenance of system solutions that drive organizational efficiency. Reporting directly to the Director, Information Technology, you are more than a technical manager; you are a builder of teams, a steward of the department’s financial resources, and a key contributor to the long-term success of our educational and operational systems.
Specific Accountabilities
- Strategic Leadership : Partners with stakeholders to design and execute technology roadmaps that improve district services and align technical initiatives with organizational goals for maximum ROI.
- Team Excellence & Scaling : Leads, mentors, and evaluates a 18-member team of developers and analysts; proactively identifies skill gaps and implements professional development to keep pace with emerging technologies.
- Application Lifecycle Management : Oversees the end-to-end acquisition, development, and maintenance of system applications to enhance Calgary Catholic’s operational efficiency.
- Resource & Performance Management : Directs resource allocation across departmental tasks while setting clear objectives and performance standards for all staff.
- Technical Advisory : Serves as a subject matter expert on industry trends, providing technical guidance to internal clients on business-critical initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field.5 years of leadership experience, including managing teams of IT professionals.Proven expertise leading legacy-to-cloud migrations (Azure) and a deep understanding of cloud- native principles, including microservices, APIs, and serverless computing.Ability to implement modern development workflows, such as CI / CD and DevOps, to enhance the speed and reliability of application deployments.Strong command of Alberta’s privacy legislation and security frameworks. Provides strategic oversight of cybersecurity hygiene and incident response planning to safeguard sensitive student and staff data across all platforms.Proficient in Cloud Financial Management (FinOps) to optimize resource allocation and ensure budgetary accountability for cloud consumption.Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership.The Calgary Catholic School District is committed to fair and accessible employment practices and considers catholicity, equity, diversity, and inclusivity to be foundational to its institutional success.
