Overview
As a strategic Inventory Planner, you will serve as the architect of the City’s material supply chain, ensuring our frontline teams have exactly what they need to keep Edmonton moving. Reporting to the Supervisor of Inventory Management, you’ll take the reins of our SAP ecosystem—optimizing stock levels, mastering Material Master Data, and upholding safety standards to provide the high-quality service our citizens expect. You are a collaborative problem-solver who balances analytical rigour with the City’s commitment to financial stewardship. By leveraging sophisticated parameter management and building strong partnerships with internal clients, you will protect the City’s investment in parts and materials while ensuring our diverse warehouse locations operate at peak efficiency.

What will you do?
- Control, maintain and monitor SAP Material Requirements Planning (MRP) parameters and transactions for assigned Plants by evaluating the material master data and planning situation, identifying needs based on historical and forecasted demand (i.e. what and how much is required, and when is it needed), and executing the plan to fulfil requirements
- Communicate SAP MRP inconsistencies and exceptions to the Supervisor, Inventory Management
- Maintain precise inventory data and balances to optimize inventory value and prevent overstatement or understatement of inventory investment
- Ensure accuracy of the material master data including Material Master Records (MMR) and MRP settings, review historical demand prior to initiating replenishment orders
- Analyze statistical data to determine best replenishment methods to ensure inventory is stocked in locations that have demand and that the appropriate SAP stocking parameters are in place for every inventoried item
- Analyze material classifications based on the usage, cost or movement to achieve efficient inventory levels at the Plants while reducing the out of and over stock situations
- Consult with the client department to determine priorities and requirements. Assist with dispute or issue resolution
- Analyze impacts in inventory stocking decisions, use of critical parts / seasonal parts indicators, impacts of new equipment acquisitions and equipment being retired from service
- Run weekly, monthly and yearly reports to ensure service levels and KPI's are being met including, but not limited to, on time in full (OTIF), inventory turns targets and inventory investment levels
- Have extensive knowledge of the parameters within the SAP inventory module and the unique COE customized programming
- Partner with and work closely with Operational Purchasing, Warehouse Operations, and internal Fleet / City operations clients to analyze requirements, impacts of market conditions, vendor lead times, and key supply chain factors
- Ensure the development of comprehensive end-to-end processes, reduce inventory risk, and optimize customer service levels and manage obsolete and surplus inventory
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to forecasted demand and MRP requirements
- Serve as a subject matter expert on issues regarding inventory policies and procedures, SAP, M5, and other ERP applications
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
Degree in Business Administration or a related discipline. Specialization in operational Inventory Management and Planning would be an asset2 years progressive experience in Inventory Management and Operational Warehousing environment including purchasing and supply chain management or computerized ERP environment utilizing Inventory planning modules, including forecasting with preference to SAP is requiredAssets
Experience in Warehouse Operations is an assetCPIM designation from APICS and / or SCMP designation from SCMA are assetsSkills required for success
