JOBS & SUMMER JOBS

Looking for intelligent and motivated individuals. While experience is an asset, we are willing to train. Must be able to work around bees.

We will teach you tips on how to do that, but you will have to be the person that faces the fear. We can't do that for you.

Duties include checking and working hives, unwrapping hives, moving hives, adding boxes, raising queens, loading & unloading trucks, stripping & extracting honey, washing equipment, cleaning the honey house, feeding hives, wrapping hives.

Could be operating a hydraulic lift to move honey boxes or putting empty boxes onto the hives. The job could include mowing beeyards, fencing, working with wood and building equipment as well.

Most of the time could be spent outside helping with the hives or inside working with the honey. You will always be with a crew of 2-3 others.

This job will be flexible, filling spots as needed.

This job will be 5 days / week. The time frame or seasonality of it can be lengthened or shortened to fit the candidate or the weather.

Salary : $15-20 / hour. The hourly rate will be adjusted accordingly depending on the job you do and retroactively paid to your starting date.

Accomodations : We will help you find accomodations while you are working at Pedersen Apiaries or you can put a camper in the main yard and live there.

As one employee describes it, "We are in the middle of everything and the middle of nowhere at the same time." Another employee says that we live in a safari.

It is beautiful country with lots of hills, trees and wildlife.

For more information check out our website : pedersenapiaries.ca / employment.html. On the website you will also find information about the research that we do and that we have been breeding bees for over 30 years.

We don't really fit into the stereotypes of either commerical beekeepers or hobby / sideliner beekeepers and have been put down by both groups.

One person described us as "Commercial beekeepers that think like hobbyists." Perhaps that is because it is only the last 2 generations of the family that have been commercial beekeepers and before that we were hobbyists.
