Job Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor / Coordinator of Facility Operations, this position is responsible for assisting with facility operations maintenance, cleaning and repair work. This position is responsible for the security and safety of the facility and its patrons.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Performs general cleaning and maintenance (i.e. detail cleaning, set-ups and breakdowns of tables and chairs, minor repairs, painting, outdoor lake and fountains maintenance).
- Operates power tools, cleaning and safety equipment.
- Responds to requests from the general public and other City staff on general facility issues and / or maintenance requests.
- Patrols the facility, assess and mitigate facility problems, safety hazards and / or improper departmental operations.
- Ensures policy and procedures are followed according to the standards of City of Markham.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work well with other staff.
- Performs various administrative duties as required. Logs issues through the ACR work order program or through the contact centre.
Required Skills & Competencies
Minimum 18 years of age at the start of employmentHigh School Diploma and demonstrated experience in a leadership role at the high school level or beyond is requiredTwo years’ experience in part-time facility maintenance and familiarity with maintenance procedures are required.Familiar with all aspects of the building so that questions can be handled, problems resolved, and complaints responded to in a courteous and timely manner.Current Standard First Aid with CPR “C” with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)Valid class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s licence. As a condition of employment you will be required to provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract (No demerit points plus no more than 2 infractions – maximum of one moving and one non-moving conviction)Proficient in use of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel etc.) and work order reporting software / log issues.General knowledge of email, video conferencing (Zoom, Microsoft Teams etc.)Ability to perform general maintenance skills safelyStrong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills and sensitivity to interact with diverse groupsCore Behaviours
